YuGiOh protagonists tend to fall into two categories:
1)Silly little positive guy who wants the best for people and will be put through the absolute wringer
2)Mechanics trying to overthrow a corrupt company/government system
Characters that YGO DM writers said a massive "Fuck you":
1- Joey Wheeler / Jonouchi Katsuya. Like, dude had potential, dude was well written and compelling, dude had a cool design and backstory.... then everything is scrapped and he is turned into the group´s clown, like, no more cool thug dude trying to be a good person for you.
DUDE. HAD. POTENTIAL.
2-Yugi Muto. Don´t let me start. He is supposedly the protagonist (and his name is on the title), but the show isn´t abut him. THE SHOW ISN´T ABOUT HIM. He is at best plot device when he is not getting Torture Nexus. How did you achieve not being the true protagonist in your own show?
3- Ryou Bakura. THE LEGEND... I don´t have to explain this one. It´s well known what happened. Like WTF?
