15 Day BL Challenge - The Sequel
@slonekaru has created a part two to the 15 Day BL Challenge I created in the first half of the year. How could I not participate?? This type of activity is really just for the Tumblr BL community to engage with each other and maybe we'll all pick up a rec or two or 15? We're still using the tag #BLChallenge2k24 so everything is still in one nice and neat tag.
Day 16: What show has taken you by surprise this year?
City of Stars. I really never know what to expect from Star Hunter because the trailers say one thing and then the series is completely different. Surprisingly the series is good? Lately we've been getting quite a few series that are about BL actors and how toxic stans can be and how bad fandom behavior is and I eat it up everytime.
Fueang and Krom are so unproblematic and sweet and communicative and I loved them a ton. It was a treat to watch Fueang juggle being a super famous actor in a well-established BL ship and being in a secret relationship with his literal next door neighbor-turned-part-time-assistant.
Also I really loved the side pairing. Fueang's onscreen partner Hia Kor works hard to win back his ex-girlfriend Namsom who broke up with him because she didn't want him to receive any hate for dating a trans woman.
The series is honestly a treat and it's so underrated and I think everyone should watch it and enjoy. I will say that Krom's friends are kind of annoying as well Fueang and Kor's managers but they're still likeable characters.
What an absolute dark horse of a pleasure City of Stars turned out to be.
Communication between the mains both in & out of the bedroom.
Trans representation that isn’t the butt of the joke but instead was handled with loving care.
Relationship development that at first seemed rushed, but then was given time to grow.
A “shipped” pair that are truly best friends, that love & support each other & their partners.
Outwardly expressing distain for the toxicity that exists in the industry & fandoms.
A happy ending without a random unnecessary break up.
Honestly 10/10. No notes.
