if someone doesn't smash that fkn phone....
The common cold is the most powerful force in the Thai bl world. For most people a cold is uncomfortable but if you're a character in a Thai bl I am so sorry because you're gonna be on your deathbed. It's been 5 minutes since you first coughed and you're passing out in the hallway, you’re unconscious, you're helpless, you don't know what's happening. Why do you have absolutely no memory of the last 72 hours? Oh right because you went outside in the rain for six seconds and caught an insta-cold and now you're in your crushes' house having nightmares of a past life. The only thing standing between a bl boy with a cold and the sweet embrace of the grave is a bowl of room temperature water and a washcloth
“Why do Thai BLs always end in marriage and children now?”
Because they literally just got the right to that in Thailand and you are a foreigner who has enjoyed such rights for 10+ years. Let them have a minute to enjoy it before crying about how it’s conforming to nuclear family expectations.
Spoilers for Ep.5 of Heated Rivalry! I am bringing you another Russian speaking fandom crashout, reactions and lore details that foreigners could not have catched 😭 The amount of work everyone in this series did, damn...
= the musician (who specializes in religious music) pointed out that they put a very solemn Christian song-poem for Ilya scene at the funerals, the lyrics are "Weep, my soul, cry without end - in that you'll find your comfort. For you will not have the time to weep when death comes"
= Another song playing in the background (during Ilya x Svetlana talk) was "Журавли" ("Cranes") which is a solemn tragic song that originally is about morning deceased soldiers in WWII (which is also kinda fitting because of Ilya's dad). But also this song is very famous in other countries – for example, in Korea it is used often in variety shows simply in sad moments, so I'm not sure if HR connected lyrics or just vibes (or just used because of copyright)
= Also Moonlight Sonata had played at one point, but that's not Russian specific, it's just musician fans went ecstatic over this episode xD
= black bread on top of the shot of vodka - is a sign of respect and mourning for the late person, funeral tradition only.
(We are so starved for the good foreign representation, we're excited to see even funeral customs and bread with vodka lol 😅 )
= Borodino - is a long and difficult historical poem that every Russian middle-schooler has to learn by heart and recite for their literature lesson. Fans are impressed (and also feel pity) for Connor who had to be gone through the similar experience to deliver this insane monologue xD But it was indeed insane because it was in Russian, and that means it was too raw, too honest and he was distressed.
By the way, here somebody has translated the russian lines Ilya said into English because subtitles did not do enough justice:
= Also YES, Svetlana did clock Ilya's ass few times, based on their dialogue, and she DID say "I hope Jane knows how lucky HE is", and ALSO she pronounced Jane similar to Shane in Russian this time.
(Spoiler for the 2nd book in the next screenshot)
(Yes, russian speaking fans like calling Shane as Shanya - more cuter, affectionate version of his name, which is a thing that we do in our language - love changing names spelling and giving nicknames to people and characters we adore)
Khemjira - Episode 12
