GREETING AND SALUTATIONS TO ALL MY NEW TUMBLR FRIENDS I HOPE TO MAKE GREAT MEMORIES HERE...
Ah yes, MISSO
Why I like Geronimo Stilton, Secret Agent
Alright so uh...I decided to put my reasons here on why I like the book a lot, and don't worry I will continue the summary. Because this whole thing isn't only about the book itself but also the problems with the other books in the series. One problem that fans such as myself had observed overtime, and if you're are wondering if this whole rant is going to contain spoilers for the book? Then yes, you are absolutely correct about that but, I am not going to put all the details here like I did with the review. I am just going to talk about the specific things on why I like this book, and what to me makes it better than the others based on morals they try to convey to kids heads.
So, one of the things I like about this book is the way they finally portrayed a wholesome friendly relationship in a healthy way. Because usually, when Geronimo's friends are shown in one of the stories like Bruce for example there is always constant signs of toxicity like emotional manipulation, gaslighting, lack of care and honestly just terrible traits in a relationship.( I mean most of his family members do this to but that's a topic for another day) one example that proves on how manipulative his friends can really be is on...'' Rumble In the Jungle''. The context is technically Geronimo's ''friends'' forcing him to fly to Portugal, then later on LEAVING HIM TO DIE OF STARVATION AND DEHYDRATION and to add salt to the wound? they stole his fricking wallet and hijacked all of his archives. And the fact that they said ''It was for your own good'' as a excuse is just ridiculous and immature alright back to Secret Agent. So...how is this book different from showing these awful friendships? Well I will need to mention a character that I adore so much AKA Kornelius Von Kickpaw, as most of my followers had noticed from the drawings I did I would constantly draw this guy. And welp now you will see the reasons unfold, so..what makes this guy so likable is that, usually when one of Geronimo's friends appear in one of the books they give him the typical ''I don't care just do what you're told'' word right? well with Kornelius it's not like that.
When Kornelius was first introduced, he was shown to be very considerate, caring and kind to Geronimo! I mean sure...him following Geronimo was creepy and weird. But when Kornelius explained to Geronimo on why he took him to his manor, what he did was reasonable...Kornelius gave the offer to Geronimo to become his bodyguard because he wanted to protect him in knowing on how his life is like a open book to many eyes to the world. He was worried because he knows Geronimo is the kind of person to bump into problems that can harm him in many ways, and us the audience know that because it has been shown plenty of times in the series that he gets into many messes. Hell, the book also showed that, so..I guess he didn't just follow him because he wanted to meet him he also did so because he wanted to protect him in a way but...it was still odd for him to do but atleast it was actually understandable.
What makes this book also likably unique is that in usual books it's Geronimo doing the favor for his ''friends'' but in this book its actually the other way around...when I first saw Kornelius, I was expecting him to ask a stupid request that would lead Geronimo in danger like the others. But this time it wasn't like that, it was actually Kornelius doing the kind act for him, throughout the whole story he was there for him helping Geronimo in finding the envelope when his other friends weren't (because somehow all of them were ''busy'' at the time, not even his family couldn't help him) it really shows on how ignorant his friends can be huh. Like I am serious, my man Kornelius used his precious free time to save Geronimo from drowning two times I am pretty sure in knowing on how absentminded his friends can be when it comes to Geronimo's state of death and BOI Kornelius changes that. And another thing that actually makes me believe that Kornelius cares about Geronimo as a whole is that, even though according to Geronimo ''they haven't squeaked in years'' since preschool (in the book it has been mentioned that Kornelius used to protect Geronimo from the bullies in elementary) he was still willing to come back to G just to protect him again. And in another scene, after all of the shenanigans that they both went through in finding the important runaway document of the Rodents Gazette Kornelius sets up a meeting with G in his office to give him a gift! The gift was a goldish satellite phone that he can put around his neck, so he can call anyone when he's in danger HONESTLY GUYS. DO. WE. EVER. GET. CUTE. INTERACTIONS. LIKE. THIS, WITH. ONE. OF. GERONIMO'S. IMPULSIVE. ''FRIENDS?''. H MMMM? This just shows on how Kornelius doesn't only see Geronimo as someone to protect but to also value as a ''special friend'', and tbh the moment when he mentioned one of their memories together when they were kids was a very adorable moment I guess this indicates on how special there relationship really was.
Overall Geronimo Stilton, Secret Agent is a really cute and wholesome book to read about two friends getting back together with no toxic strings attached to it. I guess this book also proves on how I think Kornelius might be one of the greatest friends Geronimo will ever have! (It's sad because in the later books he doesn't appear a lot and just became a wasted character) and honestly reading other books where Kornelius is featured in the book still shows him being logically concerned for Geronimo all while generally being helpful and less of being a controlling annoyance. I guess this whole essay will give some information on why Geronimo x Kornelius exist (my favorite ship in the fandom), also I was honestly shocked that Geronimo declined the offer of Kornelius becoming his body guard but knowing his personality more made me realize that. He likely did that because, considering Kornelius is a secret agent who works for the government and who has to put their life on the line everyday just to save a bunch of lives, I guess he knew the pressure would get to him orrr it can also be because he didn't want to be a heavy burden for him to carry but who knows?
