Chardonnay Koromiko (#fbcb7e to #fcb76d)
#2618 - Veronica salicifolia - Willow-leafed Hebe
AKA Veronica fonkii, and the koromiko, but not the only Veronica known by that latter name.
A large, evergreen shrub reaching 2 m in height, growing in Chile and most of the South Island, Stewart Island, and the Auckland Islands - although that later may have been a deliberate planting since they were found near a ruined house. It has also been recorded as naturalised in Europe. It grows from the coast up to 2800m above sea level, the highest elevation for flowering plants in Aotearoa.
One of the few Hebes with a pleasantly strong scent, and a generous amount of nectar. The Māori chewed the leaves to help cure diarrhoea, and applied to the skin to aid ulcers and wounds.
