i’ve been very bad, izumo.
well, then. you know the drill. start stripping.
you ever put a treat in front of a dog’s face while it’s sleeping? it wakes up to a real life dream and gobbles it whole.
yea, kotetsu does that. he inhales it before he’s even really awake.
he jerks his hand back. close one.
‘ you awake now? ‘ watches him chew the taffy in his half-asleep stupor.
TAKES ALL THE CHILDREN SEEKING REFUGE. BUT DAS IT.
and thank you for the taffy.
“good.” that’s what he wanted to hear, what he expected to hear actually. they’ve been together so long, he doesn’t consider it a life at all if izumo’s not there too.
“together, or not at all, yea?” arms secure around the chunin’s middle, kissing his shoulder blade.
an old, familiar mantra. he hums in agreement, reaching to clasp a hand over one of kotetsu’s. he’d fashioned something good out of those words long ago; it’s a truth, simple and immovable. he’d missed this. he misses this.
‘ right. ‘ squeezes his hand. ‘ right, so, you’re not going anywhere without me. ‘
he presses his forehead to izumo's back, between his shoulder blades, and breathes in deep. it feels like years since he's been here, he wants to remember what the man feels like, "--'ey, izu," he starts, "we'll always be together, right?"
kotetsu’s voice rings familiar as always, warmth settling in where he touches. izumo thinks on it for a moment, a deep exhale, something infinitely comforting stirring just under his skin. ‘ yeah, ‘ he answers, mouth curving up into something tentative. the air clogs his throat, thick with sugar and syrup and home.
‘ goes without saying, doesn’t it? ‘
