KOTLC thouhgts
This is random but why do the elves trust the kids? Ik this is just standard book talk but Elves can live for like hundreds and hundreds of years aren’t the teens basically still infants in there timeline? Why would they trust the babies? Just cause a bunch of super smart elves said they could? Just a thought about a lot of books set for teens and like older kids I always found it so curios.

hey Shannon I just think it would—it doesn’t matter how I got your number just listen—I think it would make more sense for all elves to have atmospheric regulators at all times, like maybe work them into their registry pendants because if the lost cities are spread all over the world that means there are significant altitude differences and if elves who live close to sea level—like Sophie—are going to high altitudes immediately then their bodies won’t like that and they’ll get dehydrated and tired and if you *dont* wanna include regulators then the elves should get tired and winded when they leap to higher altitudes and then you could have elves who live in higher altitudes who aren’t as easily affected and it would just be a neat scientifically accurate feature—shannon? KOTLC wattpad fics
So like, ik that wattpad isnt super popular anymore thanks to the over crowding that happened. But I went back too it and realized, damn there are like no real people writing anymore? It might just be me but for the KOTLC fics there, its like not alot anymore. I remember when so many were being pumped out. I think its cause alot of them is moved to Ao3 now but still its crazy to think about cause Wattpad was my pipeline to fanfic, and its still a special thing to me.
Anyways if you have KOTLC fic recommendations for me, whatever site as long as its not fanfiction.net because i just dont like the formatting for it, please drop it down in the comments ive been itching to get back into reading and writing for the fandom!
KOTLC thoughts
okay, so my other post got a lot of agreement so I gotta share my other thoughts. I’d like to preface this by saying: I love this series, it’s dear to my heart and the reason I’m reading still. The world building is really fun and the characters are fun!
that being said, I have critisims.
Mostly, the matchmaking system. Just, its existence is kinda weird. Like genuinely, why is it kinda reminiscent of like, eugenics???
It might be a stretch, but from the definition eugenics implies their was a better race than another. Which btw isn’t a thing.
Thankfully, racism isn’t a thing with the elves. Still doesn’t make it great that they believe there are certain people are worse off than others. The system exist because they believe that certain people are better with others so they can have more powerful kids??? And then your considered a bad match when one of them doesn’t have powers, something they can’t control, like race??? That’s like not even considering personal feelings and gender preferences.
This is also begs the question of, what if the two people have a talentless kid and yet the two people have powers? Its a system that doesnt do much other than force people to have kids with their theoretical ideal match.
Matchmaking system wouldn’t be so bad if it was like, a list of people you CANT date.
It’s just crazy to me. I’ve been thinking about the comparison but like idk. Sorry if this this a hot take. Edit: Like to not im not saying eugenics is the same severity as the match making system, my point is more the fact the two push the idea that one trait is better than another when the said trait is uncontrollable.
KOTLC PLOT THINGS: The Avalar problem
Okay, so I think one of the things that makes KOTLC a little weird to me is the whole thing with Alvar. Do not get me wrong, I like the concept of him and his arc, A kid from a legacy family turning to the dark side to spite his family's beliefs, I just think it wasnt set up the best.
This is mainly to do with the fact that we do not get attached to A;var enough to justify the big reveal, Imo. I kinda have the same opinion as Kenric, we don't get enough time with them too care about them to get the proper buildup. Like we spend the least amount of time with him, Sophie doesnt interacte with him too much the best we get is people telling us he is awesome but for me at least that makes him kinda forgettable. I genuinely remember the first time reading, I had completely forgotten about Avalar, despite reading about him for the past 4 books. This is kinda just an issue for the series in general where there is so many people you kinda forget.
Again, the concept still is really good, I just wish they put more effort into him because a lot of it still felt half baked. I personally think if they wanted to go with the golden child to sympathetic villian pipe line they shouldve gone with Biana. Geniuenly, her and Avlar have such similiar issues but we have spent enough time with her and we know she kept a ton of things secret from sophie in the first book, and people trust her enough to let her into secrets. They couldve gone with a "I have been lying since we first met" route with her being in the Neverseen long before anyone knew she was in it or a "I joined and betrayed the black swan moment"
idk I just think too me she couldve been a more compelling villian compared to Alvar. Maybe I just dont really like him. Anyways tell me your thoughts. PS im writing at like 12am dont worry about the shitty gramammer

ok so...
the sencen legacy. i dont think keefe can 'outrun' this so-called legacy or try to avoid it, but i dont think keefe has to be 'bad'.
ok so um. here me out.
keefe doesn't fit in with the gang. i mean, he's constantly struggling under the pressure of new memories and mommy dearest. he isn't capable of dismissing gisela's taunts. he let's gisela's words affect and mold him, which makes our darling foster worry about keefe a lot.
keefe is constantly rethinking himself, like how he said 'im not who you think i am' or something along those lines when he joined the neverseen.
because he's really 'manipulative' and 'in his head', does that mean he will turn out to be 'bad'? he already joined the neverseen and came back, but then he left to hide in the forbidden cities, scared to hurt anyone from both sides of the equation.
if we put that all to context (tw: unpopular opinion...), maybe it was right for keefe to be excluded from the equation of black swan x neverseen. he's not able to be in the both 'good' and 'bad' side, since he's already been part of both the neverseen and the black swan, both with weak results.
if he's out of the equation completely, would that solve all the problems? probably not, since im pretty sure he can still fulfil this so called sencen legacy, but it might help a bit-

keefe's a good person, but shannon made it crystal clear that keefe's insecure of who he is and he let's his mother manipulate him. after all, he joined the neverseen because it was the only shot to save his mother from the prison (i think lol, i haven't read lodestar/neverseen in a while...)
keefe's still my favourite character and that isn't going to change any time soon, but he's still a bit wOnKy and i think he should toughen up and make his own choices. he's constantly torn between 'i hate my mothr' and 'i hate her but i still care for her', and that makes him do a lot of dangerous things.
like foster, ill never hate him, but for gods sake keefe... just be yourself.

random thing: i personalised some shoes and tattooed the words "don't hate me" and "i know what ur thinking, and you should be ashamed of it" using sharpie. now its my favourite shoes now- kotlc is slowly degenerating my brain sanity (in a good way)
