Reposted from @norman_parkinson Norman Parkinson started working part-time for British Vogue in 1941, taking fashion photographs such as this one of two models wearing Utility suits from the Koupy Autumn 1943 collection. This pose was a variant of one published as an advertisement for the Bon Marché department store in Liverpool and was one of many photographs depicting life on the Home Front during World War Two. The models are also wearing hats by the legendary hat designer Aage Thaarup (1906-1987). • Bon Marché in Liverpool was founded in 1878, inspired by its Parisian counterpart. As well as featuring French fashion and beauty products, the department store encouraged the arts, building an in-house gallery in 1927. It also became a site for concerts, lectures and promotional events, and Gracie Fields made guest appearances selling stockings during the 1930s. Bon Marché continued during the war, opening an air raid safety zone and also staging a Utility-style fashion show.
