Rambling about the character songs on the music player on my blog, and how they suit my trolls
Hikari’s Theme (Star) - Light, sweet, and innocent, the tune portrays a feeling of hope with a tinge of bittersweet melancholy. This suits Hikari’s feelings towards her future; She has a set path ahead of her, but she’s still hopeful that things will turn out good for her. The bittersweet part comes from the loss of her lusus and her consequential found-family.
Dohvan’s Theme (Spectrum of the Sky) - Darker and more foreboding than Star, it holds a much more melancholic note with a lighter tune that carries on. The repetitive and recurring notes suit Dohvan’s diligent, methodical and concise behavior. The heavier bits lean more towards his military career and aggression.
Yomi’s Theme (Repose) - Calm, but definitely with a sad and nostalgic note. Very much suits Yomi’s past and how he lingers on and is weighed down by it. He feels remorseful for the lives he took, and has essentially lose hope for having much of a future.
Kovier’s Theme (Ruins) - Much more chilling than the other songs, it starts off repetitive and creepy, much like Kovier. Heavier undertones start creeping in until the actual tune begins, fitting Kovier’s preferred method of manipulating trolls into a situation where he can attack them. The tune itself is haunting and reminds me of Kovier’s manipulative tendencies in and outside of battle. It also portrays his hunting method of striking, then stalking terrified prey, and then attacking again.
Nari’s Theme (Kuvera) - Another heavier song with more rock, it sounds like battle music. It suits Nari’s aggressive, violent, and bigoted behavior along with his sadism. It better fits his former life as a military officer, but even as he is, he’s a relatively formidable foe even just with his manipulative tactics and experience alone. It does suit his pride and desire to come out of a fight victorious, or die trying.
Nari Calmed (Land of Dwarves) - This song has a cozier start and suits Nari’s current life, with his bumbling romantic intentions towards Frappe and his calm lifestyle living with her. Frappe gives the song a much sweeter tune, similarly to how she placates Nari’s abrasive behavior.
Keirla’s Theme (Karuna) - A lighter song with a pleasant tune suited for dancing, it fits Keirla’s playful and flirty nature and alludes to her love of playing or dancing in the rain. The lilting flutes and plucked strings seem similar to bubbling water, leaning towards Keirla’s general water and ocean theme.
Anya’s Theme (Icarus) - A light, hopeful tune that suits Anya’s hope for her future and survival. The high notes create an uplifting feeling that suit her well with an airy theme. The beat, once it kicks in, suits her intelligence and physical capabilities, and the repetitiveness of the song fits her methodical nature.
Blazen’s Theme (Pilgrim Snow) - The high notes bring a cold atmosphere to mind, and the flute suits Blazen’s unfortunate past. The song suits his wandering ways and nostalgia for the past, as well as his softer side and determination to help his patients.
Chimaa’s Theme (Prayer) - A melancholic song right off the bat, it fits Chimaa’s depressing past. The piano carries on with brief pauses, similarly to Chimaa’s desire to move on with his life, but being hindered by his mental illness. The tune carries hope, though Chimaa won’t admit it’s there. The song is brief, as if cut short, fitting Chimaa’s lost potential.
