After Nissan took over the Prince Motor Company in 1966, they wisely kept Prince’s Skyline team, led by Shinichiro Sakurai, intact. The fourth-generation Skyline arrived in 1972 with a GT-R spec version to homologate the Skyline for racing, along with two racing prototypes. However, the 1973 oil crisis intervened, and Nissan pulled out of motor racing, and the Skyline 2000GT-R Racing Prototypes (KPGC110) never raced, and the Skyline GT-R was cancelled for the next 16 years.
