Interview - miss A

miss A “6 years since debut, have already matured in various aspects”

Ranking #1 on various major music charts online just upon their release, and is still staying strong after 15 days, this is the legend of miss A who made a comeback after a year and 5 months. Title song ‘Only You’ has a different style, with a relaxing and cheerful melody. Let’s enjoy the honest and adorable side of miss A, who has always been emphasizing on a strong and magnanimous female concept ever since their debut.

Reporter: ‘Only You’ has ranked #1 on Gaon Charts for 15 consecutive days, everyone please express your feelings in a sentence.

Min: Really good!

Jia: There were many seniors who had a comeback at the same time, and EXO, it’s an honour to rank #1 for 2 consecutive weeks. Thank you everyone for loving us.

Reporter: Having a comeback after a year and 5 months, how did the members spend their time during this period?

Min: Each member has been working hard on individual activities. Suzy focused mainly on filming movies and commercials; Fei and Jia were MCs for <Idol’s True Colors>, and also had activities in China; I mainly focused on filming for online web drama.

Reporter: Heard that Suzy injured her ankle? How is it now?

Suzy: It’s alright now. Although the injury wasn’t very serious, we were afraid that it might affect promotional activities, so I’ve been wearing sneakers during this promotion period.

Reporter: Please introduce ‘Only You’ to everyone.

Min: ‘Only You’ is about the concept of a female being brave in expressing her love, it’s very suitable with miss A’s image, it’s a rhythmic song that makes people excited.

Reporter: Your debut song was very successful, resulting in being asked about <Bad Girl Good Girl> related questions every time during your comebacks. This time <Only You> achieved #1 on various digital music charts for 2 consecutive weeks, and even achieved triple crown on Gaon Charts, does it mean that it exceeded <Bad Girl Good Girl>?

Jia: From a newcomer’s perspective, <Bad Girl Good Girl> has received everyone’s love. However, just like how music doesn’t only have one genre, miss A can’t advance with only one concept. This time we revealed a different new concept which was unexpected, hope everyone will look at this song with a ‘This song is not bad, other songs are also good’ attitude.

Reporter: The album this time has a total of 6 songs, which is your favourite song?

Min: I like <Love Song>, <One Step> and <Stuck> which I was involved in writing the lyrics for. Actually it’s really difficult to just choose only one, I like all the songs.

Suzy: <I Caught Ya> which I wrote the lyrics for, I still prefer it regardless of anything.

Jia: For me it’s <Love Song>. The first time I heard it I felt that it can totally be our title song.

Fei: It’s also <Love song> for me. I had a deep impression of the melody when I first heard it.

Reporter: Min and Suzy were involved in writing the lyrics of songs in this album. How do you feel about the lyrics you’ve written in <Stuck>?

Min: It was actually an English song, the melody was really great, so I wanted to try to write the lyrics, I edited it many times until it was completed.

Reporter: Suzy wrote the lyrics for <I Caught Ya>, how did you get involved in it?

Suzy: I’ve originally like writing lyrics, and I’ve wrote some. After that I received a suggestion to write the lyrics for this album, so I tried working hard on it. I decided on the theme first, wanted to write lyrics that are similar to the genre of the song, so I thought “Shall write about a girl’s feelings about her boyfriend cheating on her”, hence the lyrics for this song.

Reporter: Heard that you write diaries everyday? Your schedule has been so busy recently, are you still writing?

Suzy: Because I like to write diaries, so I’m still writing it frequently now.

Reporter: miss A’s popularity has been due to strong performances. For previous performances, you girls will sometimes lie on the ground, and sometimes using pole dancing and other props to dance. Compared to previous performances, the stage for this song is more light and cheerful. From performances’ perspective, what are your thoughts?

Jia: When I first saw the choreography I was shocked, it was very different compared to the past. When we were practicing Only You, we thought that this was a “Pretty style, pretty choreography” song. The choreography was by the teacher who rehearsed for <Touch>. Teacher said that the dance moves look easy, but actually it’s more difficult when you dance it, especially when having to follow the rhythm.

Reporter: From <I Don’t Need A Man> to this time’s <Only You>, miss A has displayed a composed and frank female image. Have you thought of going for a cute or ‘teenage girls’ concept?

Min: If we have a song with a similar concept like that, we’d also work hard to express it. Regardless of sexy or cute, or Hip Hop, the choreography, outfits etc. must be similar to the song’s genre.

Reporter: What style do you especially want to try?

Jia: Hip Hop

Fei: Jazz

Reporter: It has been 6 years since your debut, are there any differences between now and your debut period?

Fei: There are a lot of differences, personality, dance choreography that I like, and style of performances on stage have all changed.

Min: Regardless of anyone, there’re bound to be changes after 5, 6 years, we’re all adapting to the surroundings, are all maturing. The things we like now are different from the past, we’ve also have more opinions, all areas are becoming matured.

Reporter: Besides miss A activities, Suzy has been very active on acting, Fei has been appearing on various variety shows. Other than these, are there any other areas you’d want to challenge?

Fei: I’ve never acted as of now, I’d like to try it out if I have the chance.

Jia: I want to be an MC, and also like to carry out promotional activities as a solo or sub-unit. Musical instruments, designing etc., there are lots of things I want to try out. But firstly is to work hard and complete miss A’s activities.

Reporter: What are your future plans?

Jia: After Only You activities, maybe there’ll be overseas activities.

Min: There are no confirmed plans as of now, actually we not very sure too.

Suzy: Maybe I’ll watch the movie <Dorihwaga>.
