POLL AT THE END ON WHETHER OR NOT TO CONTINUE THIS!!!
(poll finished, part 2 is out)
this started out as a kraang-ish y/n x future donnie thing that was supposed to be short and stay in my drafts but now it may become something more. i'm not gonna go back and change the perspective of 2nd person but I actually really like this story idea and I think i'm gonna keep it as y/n at least until "your" name is mentioned unless you guys prefer y/n or something else. y/n and Donnie will probably end up together further into the story but i'm not sure.
also! this is literally my first ever fan fiction, constructive criticism is allowed but also go easy on me lol
CW: depression, implied attempted suicide, maggots, body horror (but it's not focused on too long nor in too much detail in this chapter)
The days blurred together as you sat completely still in a bunch of rubble, they always seemed to since that fateful day mutegen and kraang bits mixed with you. you missed your life before the invasion, not just that but you missed your life before you lost Donnie. you weren't sure why you two got in such a big fight even now, you didn't have a definitive reason, just a group of smaller reasons that came together and caused the fight that caused you to cut him off only a few weeks before the invasion.
you missed Donnie, despite knowing it was years ago at this point. in your days wandering the desolate, uninhabited, and deserted wasteland that was earth you found yourself thinking of your life before the apocalypse.
you wondered what Donnie had been doing before he very likely died... had he panicked? was he trying to protect his brothers? probably, yeah.
... did he think of you before death...?
no, that's such a selfish thought, so you move on. nothing was ever permanent anymore, nothing set in stone, nothing measurable nor decisive. you understood life in a way only primal, instinctual animals did. humans feared the decay of information, but you didn't anymore. humans long to measure things then measure those measurements and put them into formulas meant to help understand the universe.
you no longer crave the decisiveness and information hoarding that comes with human nature. you allow yourself to forget the days, you allow yourself to spot a new creature and not theorize on how it came to be in the new world, you allow yourself to not know everything, to not contemplate the universe and the point of life.
you're miserable.
you have no direction and no lust for knowledge, in fact, you find yourself lusting for destruction, for pain, for power, none of which you've had much need for in the past. you aren't sure if it's the kraang mutation or the world around you, not that it matters much.
----
you've been shot at, crushed, poisoned, fallen off a cliff, stabbed, exploded, starved, bitten, hung, and several other things. some percentage of these were your own doing, you aren't sure which ones were or weren't anymore, but either way you can't find yourself caring enough to keep trying. 'kraang are too durable' you used to think, but now you don't care much one way or the other.
you've found yourself going through a new phase of spending your time here: sitting still. you sit somewhere for days and days and weeks and weeks, nothing to entertain you but the miniscule happenings and your own thoughts. the apocalypse was quite peaceful actually despite kraang always searching for more land to conquer, but if they already conquered an area, like earth, leaving it desolate, dying, and wreaked, it could be quite peaceful.
----
you believed earth had been conquered entirely by the kraang, yet somehow you weren't surprised when you stumbled upon a base of survivors. you simply didn't believe it nor would you care if you did. you sat down there the moment you realized it was a base instead of moving on like the logical part of you wanted to.
you weren't sure how long you sat there, weeks, a day, maybe minutes or even seconds for all you knew. but at some point after you sat down some people approached you. they pulled out weapons and snapped at you, but their voices sounded muffled and their words didn't quite process. that simple yet hostile human interaction was enough for you to realize you hadn't spoken to a human in a long enough time you struggled to understand them. you also weren't quite sure when you had lost most of your hearing but you were just now noticing was muffled.
you didn't react to their weapons and snapping, nor did you react when you felt a gentle touch inspect you, their cold hands checking your pulse. you didn't look to see their face, nor responded when they slowly and loudly asked you to.
they stepped back but you still felt the weapons all pointed at you. you attempted to keep track of how long you sat there with them, as some sort of effort at potentially being able to communicate with them properly, but your mind left you behind, not even taking notice of being tied up then carried somewhere.
you finally got yourself to react when a light shines in your eyes. you blinked and shifted to try to pull away from the light. you finally made the effort to process the things around you, wanting to understand why this bright light was in your eyes... then you saw him...
"hmm... minimal reactions..." his blunt voice muttered.
"yeah, it looks like a kraang... but not quite... I would say a kraang zombie but it doesn't quite act like one," his brother pointed out
they had you set up on a table, laid on some kind of towel as Donnie shined a light in your eyes, watching as your pupils dilated and how you reacted.
"it's weak." the softshell pointed out, setting the flashlight down and poking at you before pulling back, shuddering. "maggots!" he exclaimed in shock and disgust "how long was it sitting there?" Donnie asked his brother as he grabbed some gloves.
"I'm not sure but it wasn't there when we left for the supply run." Leo responded, glancing between Donnie and you on the table, disgusting, unpresentable, and unidentifiable after years in the apocalypse.
Donnie huffed a sigh in response. "... i'll have to study this... thank you 'nardo." Donnie continued, subtly telling Leo to leave and he reluctantly complied with a short word of advice.
"be careful with it. we don't know what it is... or at least what it was."
part 3!!! the name I've decided upon is "From Humanity and Horrors"
thank you guys for the support, I was actually considering closing this fan fic but then I posted the second part and found a lot of likes the next day so that has given me the motivation to keep writing! and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep interacting with my posts and you are always welcome to ask questions on the lore for any of my oc's or stories and talking about my stuff gives me life so the askbox is always firmly open for anything at all!!!
I took a bit of a creative turn halfway through but if I didn't then i'd be staring at the screen for weeks with writers block. also! if you're reading this in one sitting, pause for some water before/after this chapter {foreshadowing} anyways! here it is:
CW: mild injury, pain, blood, major character death, implied violence, yelling, throwing objects, threatening/intimidating behavior
you stirred awake, finding yourself still on that table, but now you had bandages over your body and you felt strangely... okay... you weren't sure how exactly you felt, you weren't good at this kind of stuff anymore, but living just seemed slightly more bearable.
you slowly looked around the room, still in the one you were in before. the walls were concrete, just like the ceiling. you reached up to your face, quickly locating the feeding tube in your nose. you would pull it out but the tape keeping it in place would hurt to pull off from your sensitive skin and besides, you were feeling better, so whatever Donnie had been doing while you were passed out must've made you feel better so you decided to trust his actions.
you were still for a moment, listening to the beeping from some kind of monitor or machine that seemed to be your heart rate. you could tell your heart rate was irregular: slow but without much pattern.
you pushed yourself up into a sitting position and heard your heart rate speed up from the movement. you attempted to ignore it but it got irritating very quickly, so you simply pulled the heart rate monitor off your finger and it quickly went quiet.
you tried to swing your legs off the bed but stopped when you tugged at the chains around your ankles chaining you to the table. you looked down and shifted the chains with your feet. of course Donnie chained you, he still believed you were just kraang... and maybe you were...
Donnie.
Donnie's alive. humans and yokai are still alive and fighting the kraang. you had believed they had all died... that Donnie died... and now he was fine... you wished you had been able to see him more and maybe even talk to him more before you were locked up in this room-
the door swung open, Donnie immediately assessing you. goggles on, looking irritated with a hint of worry, before his face immediately fell upon seeing the heart monitor taken off.
ah, you probably should've expected him to get some kind of alert about the heart monitor not finding a heart rate anymore.
"God I-" he huffed and rubbed the bridge of his nose before stepping in, closing the door. "y'know, you're making a lot of things pretty difficult for me." he pointed out, readjusting his gloves then grabbing your wrist. it stung. you instinctively attempted to pull away, something on his gloves stinging and burning your skin. he didn't even notice your distress though, whether he wasn't attentive enough or you weren't noticable enough, either way he only noticed that you had been hurt when he had put the heart rate monitor on you again and pulled away, noticing the irritated skin where his hand had been. "hmm." was the only sign of his acknowledgement, glancing at his glove in thought, without even considering empathy or guilt or apology.
you understood that he believed you were a kraang, unaware of you even being human, let alone being, well, you. the person he used to be friends with. the person that missed him dearly.
but it still hurt that he didn't even consider feeling guilty.
"interesting." he muttered.
then he left, taking mental note of the substance that had hurt you.
donnie left the room he was keeping you in. hydrogen peroxide? how hadn't he thought of that to attack kraang.
this study endeavor could be a great idea to better fight the kraang. this was a rather weak and almost docile version of kraang, though he'd have to test more to figure out what kind of kraang variant this is.
it's strangely humanoid, but definitely kraang... probably...
he had been studying the skin he had cut from the kraang a matter of days ago, it was definitely kraang in almost every way, except for the blood. the blood wasn't like a kraang, in fact, kraang rarely had liquid blood at all, and upon further inspection he even found human dna.
was this some kind of kraangified zombie? more likely some kind of experimental weapon, a failed experiment since this thing isn't dangerous. even after he gave it food and took care of it, giving it opportunity to get stronger yet it was so weak and docile. he hoped it was still similar enough to the average kraang to be able to use hydrogen peroxide against regular kraang in the same way... but he was unsure about how it changed from regular kraang.
----
donnie found himself experimenting and testing more in various ways. he eventually moved the kraang into his lab, seeing as it wasn't hostile, plus he could keep an eye on it better when it was in his lab. and he wasn't going to admit that it could be nice to have something as company other than robots, like a pet almost
the kraang didn't try to escape the chains, but he still kept them on, just in case. the kraang spent most of it's time watching him, it's heavy gaze burrowing into him for the better part of every day.
he found it seemed to thrive on food, despite not needing it to survive. when he first took it and did that scan of its body he found evidence of it having not eaten in months, potentially years, no evidence of any food yet it was alive, but now that it's been fed it seemed to have been doing better.
despite it's peaceful nature it was still a difficult thing to study, mostly due to his own frustration and trial and error way of studying it. the kraang also had a tendency to resist him, intentionally or not they would resist him by doing things like taking off different monitors, or moving around when he wanted them still, or staying still when he wanted them to move.
it was irritating, but he was slowly, slowly learning bits and pieces about this kraang creature, plenty of miscellaneous info that didn't seem to fit together, but in summary of it all: something was off.
that was clear from the start to him, Leo, Mikey, and raph, but he had expected to be able to figure this out by now... he had expected to understand you by now, and his frustration was mounting because whenever he found a detail that made sense to him another detail messed that up. whenever he found a fact he believed was set in stone another piece of info came in and left that fact seemingly invalid. it was infuriating always having every theory proven wrong.
the company of this docile kraang became more and more of a burden than it was originally, a reminder of what he couldn't solve.
----
he entered his lab, you immediately picked up the scent of blood, metallic and sweet. you sat up quickly, watching as he stormed in. he was covered in dirt and blood, and still wearing his gear. you could tell it wasn't just his blood covering him, but multiple people's blood.
Donnie clumsily stumbled to his desk, grabbing around for first aid supplies then attempting to clean a wound on his side. he was injured. you instinctively moved to stand, wanting to help, but you were quickly reminded of the chains on your ankles. he immediately looked over at the sound of the chains shifting, his gaze left you frozen... it wasn't cold... it wasn't irritated... it wasn't thoughtful... it was angry.
there was a tense moment before you began to move again, attempting to get a better look at him, but he immediately and unexpectedly rendered you frozen again when he threw some kind of beaker from his desk towards you, shattering against the wall a few feet from you, whatever liquid that was inside dripping down the wall. you looked over at where it landed only for your gaze to be suddenly forced back to Donnie by his grip on your chin.
"I bet you knew!" you didn't hear him snap at first, your mind taking a long several moments to catch up to him as he began yelling at you. you didn't process it as he just began yelling in your face, every time you began to catch up to him he kept going. then before either of you knew it he grabbed your shoulders, firmly, threateningly... he was finally silent... giving you a chance to catch up, but you couldn't right now... not when he was standing there, covering in blood, eyes filled with hurt and anger, and you were still reeling from all this.
"...you killed him..."
his voice broke when he spoke.
"you killed raph...
I-...I watched you- you monsters kill raph... right- right in front of us..."
silence filled the room as his words stuck into your brain.
"... say something..." he hissed through tears, his grip on your shoulders trembling. "SAY SOMETHING!!!!"
he shoved you against the table, your head hitting against the hard surface, probably leaving a bruise. "you have vocal chords! there's no major injury o-or any reason why you jus- you just won't talk!!" his finger nails began to dig into your arms.
"say you're sorry! you- you monsters..." he choked out, hurt and tears in his eyes. "why-... why are you like this..." he managed out, his voice barely audible over his building sobs.
he finally broke down completely, squeezing your shoulders tighter as he leaned down, head falling onto the table beside you, tears rolling down his cheeks then onto the towel covering the table beneath you. "... y-you killed my brother... r-right in front of us..." he choked out over his sobs.
the air felt heavy in the lab, his sobbing echoing around the lab as you tried to think of what to do.
then, you gently rested a hand on his head in an attempt to comfort him, rubbing your thumb on his head.
his sobs hitched and he sat up in response, your hand falling from his head. he looked right into your eyes, his gaze heavy with thought, but not quite the same kind that he usually had when he looked at you... an emotional thoughtfulness... a realization... reprehensiveness... hurt... pity... shock... and probably a thousand other emotions you couldn't name.
then as quickly as he came, he stood and grabbed the first aid supplies on his way out.
WOWEE this was a doozie, how are we feeling after this?
this one was a bit longer than I aimed for and also a little heavier than I really intended this early but this was fun to write. the next part might be a little shorter or take longer since the story is picking up faster than I wanted and I need a bit to figure out how to write these next few parts, maybe i'll experiment with art of this to keep you guys fed with content.
post writing edit: I'm gonna put these guys through hell
part 1/part 2/part 3/part 4/part 5 (coming 2/7/2026)
