A concept that was, ahem, eating at me since before Bogtober started but I’m absolutely stoked to finish now. :)))

“CHILD OF HESH: (see also: Hesh, of the Dark; Parasite; Cruel and Unusual Punishment)
<Transcript reads:> “The Cult's zealous worship of the entity, "Hesh" is well-known. However, an obscure practice which involves a very rare species of parasite is treated with nearly the same level of fanaticism.
The exact species and method of infection are unknown, but it appears kra'deshi are most susceptible. Unfortunately, the Cult's treatment of those "blessed" enough to find themselves a host has made attempts at further research difficult.
Upon being infected with a "Child of Hesh," the victim is forbidden from seeking medical aid for removal, as the parasite is deemed sacred. To be blessed by Hesh and chosen as a "vessel" to protect his offspring is an ‘ honor without equal and without cure... ’
Those infected lose most cognitive function as the parasite quickly hijacks the host's nervous system, causing them to deteriorate into a zombie-like state. Tendrils covered in bioluminescent markings can be seen through the skin and eyes, with parasites even replacing eyestalks entirely at later stages.
Once the victim finally expires, an ending ritual takes place to burn the remains, to “seal them and the Children unto Hesh.” Evidently, the children are too sacred to allow outside of their initial host and must be sacrificed immediately. One might think the convenience suspicious...But surely, the Cult officials’ self-restraint in not partaking to become vessels themselves must be very, very admirable.
So while Hesh's consumption is said to be excruciating, no one dares to speak of Hesh's Children. As if saying it aloud could bring his “blessing” to their door next.
Because whether or not Hesh lurks in the depths...his Children certainly do.”
