It’s the last Bandcamp Friday of 2020 and here are some of my purchases that brought me lots of joy this year! I recommend y’all to give them a listen and to buy something new or something from your own favourite artists today to show your support.
1. Mala Herba - Demonologia (2021, pre-order) - nonbinary synthwave witchcraft, very pagan, very energetic, I love them 2. Kreda - Crest (EP) (2020) - Mina Spiler’s (you know her from Laibach) new project, I’d call it “pop ambient”(?), beautiful, calming. Inspired by Venice. 3. Stereopolina - Яд (EP) (2018) - I haven’t listened to many of her other works as Stereopolina is my recent discovery, but this EP is extremely energetic and fun, loving the title song. Retro synthwave. 4. Foie Gras - DEMO(N)S (EP) (2020) - a collection of demos of previously released songs, if you don’t follow the artist on soundcloud then you’ll hear some new things. I’m super emotional about Foie and her works, I can cry forever. Drone folk. 5. Nighttime - ∞ (2020) - Eva Louise Goodman has one of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard. She composes haunting folk pieces that deserve recognition. Lo-fi cosmic folk. 6. Dua Saleh - Rosetta (2020) - discovered them through twitter self-promo and been in love ever since. I’m glad their songs blew up so much ever since, I’m somehow pround. Queer rap. I’d kill for the vinyl but the shipping costs from the US double the album’s price. 7. Guayaba - Guayaba Presents: Fantasmagoría (2019) Latina goth hip hop. It’s dark, it’s sexy. One of my fave albums of 2019 for sure. Would also recommend the 2020 side project named Ex-Florist. Would love the vinyl - same issue as with Dua. 8. Peter Brixby Ryan - Patience (EP) (2020) - for sure it’s a very personal release, it reminds me of this kind of catharic pain, where after listening to the whole thing I feel calm and somehow at peace. Folk? 9. Baptist Goth - I wake up in the morning and I cry (2020) - it’s the only one-track release I’m sharing here but it is SO!!! worth listening to. It’s a lamentation of modern day martyr, a response to Poland’s anti-LGBT propaganda of the past few years which artist experienced first-hand living and studying here until this year. Experimental / chant. 10. ISOTROPIA - Spasms (unreleased, in works) - nothing makes me happier than ISOTROPIA releasing and adding a new song to this upcoming album. I love the original approach to the way they’re releasing it. It’s way more experimental than the debut album, which makes the waiting even more exciting. Darkwave / post-punk. 11. of the glow, of the wind, of the void... - scenes in america deserta (2019) - I love all of the releases from The Eagle Stone Collective, but I go back to this one the most. It’s incredibly calming. Ambient americana. 12. Myra Davies & Beate Bartel & Gudrun Gut - Sirens (2017) - Götterdämmerung retold and other entertaining stories spilled straight from the metropoli’s veins. Spoken word and electronic music.
