Killermare headcanons/thoughts bleh:

the loyal knight/ servant x king dynamic…killer devoting his entirety to Nightmare to chase a semblance of purpose and feeling, only to find it not in the torture and slaughter of others, but in *Nightmare*. That slither of hope for something new (wink wink), ooooh yeah bud that’s the good stuff.

And NIGHTMARE?? That newfound loyalty in someone who waits on his beck and call, who was broken by his universe and ultimately changed into a violence seeking monster, nm can’t help but emphasise with him..

Nightmare developing romantic feelings for Killer must hurt, in every physical sense possible. Being the embodiment of negativity and feeling a positive emotion?? Oh no he can’t STAND it! He’d suffer at first, how his soul painfully aches for Killer, but he doesn’t want to commit to it because of that positivity, how it hurts him,,, and some part of him feeling like he doesn’t deserve love. He couldn’t be loved by the villagers, couldn’t be loved by his own mother who condemned him to a life of hell, and (in his point of view) couldn’t be loved by Dream… he doesn’t think he’s loveable.

And THIS ^^^ becomes so conflicting if we imagine the flirty loyal interpretation of Killer, Nightmare being torn by interest and his morality, and if Killer’s commitment and supposed romantic interest is true.

The pairing actually dating would start off incredibly rocky, nm trying to avoid feeling too much positivity without hurting himself, and Killer learning to give space to nm. I also imagine that they’d be incredibly protective of one another, Killer not wanting his purpose and feelings of love to be taken from him, and nm not wanting to lose the only person who actually cares for him (his deluded thoughts of Dream shield him from Dream’s attempts at care when they were young woomp woomp).

They’d be totally devoted to each other as well, finally being able to experience the joy of being loved and loving someone else, in the safety of the castle and in their relationship.
