We don’t get to see the scene where the squad explains what’s going onto Milton, just his immediate, and understandably terrified, reaction to their appearance. So I’m here to say that the rest of the squad didn’t care all that much, but Abner saw the panicked stranger and went to try and console him. He was used to being faced with terrified people, and he hated being feared like that. Milton was oddly easily calmed by his reassurances, and they got to talking and joking together while everyone else was plotting out the next steps of their plan. I bet Abner was the one who suggested he come with them on their final mission, and he feels guilty about it. He just wanted him to know he was a hero, too.
