Avitalis Blog #1
Not a week goes by where I don't think about this little world I'm creating at least twice. As well as the girl that inspires it all. That's specifically during the busiest of weeks. Right now, this little world takes up so many crevices of my mind that I feel like my head might burst from all the unfiltered ideas. So I'll start with the forefront.
Clothing in Avitalis has been a big part of how I tackle world build for a while. I wish I could say the start, but that's a lie. If it was, then I don't think some of my characters would have as many outfits that are so all over the place. Either way, it is something I know I'm focusing on now. Especially with three of the places that I think about the most- more appropriately put "the 3 biggest places for my biggest stage in the world so far"- Archenstein, Krividann and Lendis.
Archenstein's clothing typically leans towards furs, wool and linens. Styles lean typically towards tunics, trousers, dresses and basic necessities of wear. I imagine these clothes get their personality by having beads and bone woven into edges or into designs the shirts, and the more intricate the design the more wealthy a person is. I know I want furs to be a big part of the culture as well, especially during the colder weather where it's a necessity but also a badge of sort to show how fine the furs of your dress are. I know, in Fyrmein, their winter clothing becomes highly influenced by Archenstein.
I tend to lean more goth for the idea of Krividann clothing. Partly due to Krividann being a country run by vampires. It only makes sense. But, also, it's where most of the lace in the world comes from. Lace tends to take a long time to make, and vampires tend to have way too much time on their hands, so it seems so fitting that Krividann lead in some of the finer designs when it comes to clothing. I think of elegant silhouettes with a lot of detail when it comes to anything of of Krividann. There are humans that still live there, so wools aren't uncommon. It's typical to layer up though, and have the fanciest set on top. What can I say, Krividann treats all their people well.
Lastly, the one I am thinking about the most, Lendis. The clothing here leans towards the bold with bright pops of color. Lendis values personal expression, even when most people wear some form of pointy hat. Adornments, jewelry, gems, inlays, embroidery, name it and at least three of them are in one person's outfit. The clothes also tend to be on the airy side, while being long and flowy, to beat the heat of Lendis. Especially during the hotter months. In terms of Fyrmein, it can also be guessed that Lendis attire become favored in the summer and inspirational to those who wish to express themselves visually.
I know I have a long way to go, but it's fun to get it all out of my head. Helps process what I have so far and where I need to go. Hoping to do this more often, in a style that works for my brain. Maybe expect more. We'll see. Thanks for reading though 💚
