I hear it is ME trilogy week, and while I have not been able to dedicate a lot of time to writing lately, the kind comments I've received recently from some lovely people did get me to open Mezzo back up and do a little work on it. So have a snippet, in which I finally get to showcase an OC I am very, very, very fond of.
~
When he starts talking, he even sounds like the old Shepard. Sharp, cunning, laser focused, nothing like the disconnected, indifferent human Garrus spoke to before Zorya. Surrounded by half a dozen krogan onlookers who watch and listen with suspicion or even jealousy, he deflects Wrex’s questions about Cerberus with almost alarming ease, and even makes a joke about his own death before refocusing the conversation on Wrex’s work with the krogan. Garrus never noticed before how easily Shepard controls a conversation. How many times have you done that to me? Probably more than a few, as he thinks back to the brash, naïve C-Sec officer he’d been when he first stepped onto the Normandy. When Shepard is at his best, it’s easy to see how he could be a politician if he liked physical violence a little less. You just can’t get the better of him.
But Wrex does.
“I have a present for you,” he says gruffly.
Shepard’s head tilts warily as Wrex barks something over his shoulder. Garrus’ mandibles flick as the other krogan present shuffle to clear a path. Moments later, they all bow their heads. An eerie, reverent silence falls that climbs the walls of the ruined throne room.
Then, a shaman in long, flowing robes makes her way through.
Shepard freezes, staring in open shock.
She’s massive. Her hulking frame easily matches Wrex, with a hump that outdoes him. Three deep rents mar her skullcap from crest all the way down to her lips, framed by a pair of fierce, green eyes. The rim of her crest sports an uneven row of gnarled, knobby exostoses, each of which she has set with colored rocks of different sheens and finishes. That combined with the sallower skin, heavy mottling of her chin, and deeper folds of skin along her neck and face mark her as a krogan elder – older than Wrex, if Garrus were to guess. Maybe, given how eerily those scars match up with the shape of Garrus’ own talons, even old enough to have known what it was like to live without the genophage.
“Shepard,” she rumbles.
I should post @kobbers' Jorgal Krax and extra older TF2 OC Lucius (–and let us not forget Ref!), which were very fun to (re)visit in the year of our lord 2026 for Artfight! :)

GARVUG, VALHALLAN THRESHOLD, 2194 — IN AN EFFORT to foster inter-species cooperation and relationships between the Krogan Clans and Salarian Union in the aftermath of the controversial genophage cure, warriors from Clan Khel and STG’s 7th Infantry Regiment have joined forces in a mission centered on erradicating pirate presence in the system and protecting corporate agricultural efforts dedicated to supplying colonies in the Terminus Systems.
