I read your post on the movie "Syrup," and to play devil's advocate, the novel specifies that 6 was feigning lesbianism to reject his advances. Just thought I'd clear that up.

So, couple things here.

You think, maybe, there's something seriously wrong with a situation when a woman has to pretend anything in order to get a guy to leave her alone?  Pretty much every person I know who's experienced this kind of sexual assault--men, women, genderbent, everyone--has systems in place to lie about their availability.  Wedding rings, herd mentality, pointy-toed shoes, pepper spray, fake gayness, beards.

I'd like you to take a very long step back and think about what message that sends, movie or novel.  Women have to lie to get men to leave them alone.  Yes, it happens to other people.  A LOT.  But by and large, the masculine sort tends to prey on the feminine sort, and the feminine sort have to concoct elaborate safety measures in order to stay safe.

Second, in the movie--and we're not discussing the book here, we're talking about the movie; if you want to talk about the book, you should do that somewhere else, otherwise you're just having a conversation with yourself--men love to write about the woman who's really straight and just needed a good penis.  Or the woman who's asexual and just needed a good penis.  Or the woman who's uninterested in sex with him, but if he just convinces her that his penis is good enough she'll change her mind, so damn it, he's gonna keep pushing.

That's called rape.

PS: This is the last in a surprisingly long line of little notes about Syrup.  People are very, very invested in this movie.  (You are, however, the first to bring up the book.  Congratulations.)  Some people are polite.  Some people are hateful.  One person was frightening enough that their note went to the "in case of stalker" file, because he promised to come to my home and rape the queerness out of me just like in the movie.  That's telling, isn't it?  When people recognize that it was coercive rape?  But you're still all defending it.

I'm not answering more asks or notes or whatever about Syrup.  It was a waste of my time, and it pissed me off, but honestly?  It was pretty par for the course in media.  That just makes me sick.
