Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive, and Dodge
It was Patches O'Houlihan that once said "Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and Dodge" in the classic movie "Dodgeball". Unfortunately that also describes what a great deal of us Christians do. We avoid the serious topics so that we don't step on feet, or offend anyone, and call me extremist, but I believe in living as close to the way our Lord lived as possible. Mind you, I'm not saying I'm exempt in this;in fact I'm bringing this to light because the Lord convicted me of this. We are being shut up, made to feel ashamed for believing in the things that the Bible teaches are right and wrong, and it's time we stood up, boldly saying that we will not have our freedoms taken for granted for what a few biggoted people think of Christians. "Biggotted?" You say, to which I reply with a loud YES!! It works both ways you see. They want to refer to us as "bigots" and claim that we have no tolerance, which could not be further from the truth. Just as others express what they believe, we also should be allowed to say what we believe, and not have to hide from it or back down when a group wants to repress us. I for one will go one record stating that I believe that the Bible teaches that marriage IS defined as one man and one woman. There, I'm not hiding, I'm not sorry, that's what I believe and you know what? You don't have to like it, it's a free country, and we have first amendment rights. I teach Muay Thai, and one of my very good students is Muslim, and you know what? We get along just fine, great in fact! I respect him for his faith, and he respects me for mine. We have no qualms. If there is going to be peace among the other groups in this country we have to realize that I don't have to believe the same things you do. I don't care if gays and lesbians feel they need to get married, that is their prerogative, it's a free country, that is their right as well. I do have friends that are gay, and we get along fine. You know why? I don't lord my beliefs over them and they don't lord them over me, mutual respect. However I refuse to back down anymore, I will live my beliefs and live them large and right! No more dodging!!
I DARE ME!
I'm 40 years old, and I am daring myself to step back in the ring. I've a long and convoluted story, something I'll try to slowly reveal as I get myself ready.
For now know that during the day I work in telecommunications for a big company, and have for twelve years. They are good to me, I can't complain.
The truth however is that life has been in the way of my dreams for a long time. I'm grateful, don't get me wrong, however being a blue collar worker and maintaining a household with five children isn't easy. I had twins(adorable girls, have to train really hard and perhaps buy a twelve gauge, lol!) , so knowing that my wife would need help I stepped away from fighting for awhile and just taught.
I teach Muay Thai on the weekends, I'm certified by the Thai Boxing Association (Although my wife tends to believe I'm just certifiable, hehe), and I fought off and on for over a decade.
However before it's too late I would like to step back up and fight for the next five years, or until I'm forced out, whichever comes first.
I know it won't be easy, being a blue collar guy I've pulled most of the muscles in my body at least a dozen times, broken some bones here and there, not to mention the plantar fasciitis I'm recovering from. However at forty I'm looking to make my comeback, and maybe have some fun for the next couple years, want to join me?
