Practice piece of Dorian from 10:16.

The pose is borrowed from Renoir - La Chevelure (Young Woman Braiding Her Hair).

I wanted to do better but the main goal of this was to practice figure drawing and line art. I can redo it later. I also worked on anatomy before the clothing, which helped the drape and shiny highlights on the silk PJs. So have a bonus shirtless Dorian under the cut.

If you think you’ve seen this before, you would be right. Back in June I submitted this anonymously as a meme redraw to @thekrows-nest, who Krow and LT belong to.

I considered fixing this traditional art as I was still learning to use coloured pencils properly and they look a little rough and pale. But in the end I decided to just sign it and pop it in the archives.

This is my first OC made for Dorian of 10:16 VN - her name is Rebecca (Bec) Agnes DeCorbin. She’s a WoC and has albinism just like Dorian.

There was a lot more I wanted to add, change or refine but I’m just calling it finished. There may be a male Fallen coming called Corbin DeBec.

Edit: Rebecca is a Black woman with leucism/albinism, however I’m no longer happy with this piece as she unintentionally looks very whitewashed.

I may redraw her once I have more experience and better technique.

Dorian can have a maskless illusion for a minute. As a treat.

(I also have a WIP closeup of Dorian's face but Tumblr ruins the quality of images and that one looks especially blurry.)

A Certain Slant Of Light

A gift for Dorian (from 10:16).

With Dorian’s bird motif I thought a bec de corbin (‘ravens beak’) would look cool with a shape suggestive of a beak, and talons on the end.

The engraved/embossed symbol is suggesting either a moon or a bird’s eye depending on which way the light hits it. The light might not be consistent but you will notice the weapon is slightly tilted so you can see both, creating a crescent moon. If it was real you could tilt it to show waxing, waning and full.

The spaces above and below seemed bare so I filled them with the (normal and inverted) Celtic symbol of Awen which fits very well.

The title is a song by The Tea Party and a poem by Emily Dickinson. It also alludes to the shifting symbol and Awen.

Ps. It was disappointing to find a good picture of a replica weapon that was exactly what I wanted but only after making this. That one was a much better design and fit for what I had wanted. Perhaps I’ll draw Dorian with that one later. But the upside is that the style/design here was made up out of my own head to experiment and not just a study.

Pps. There was going to be a bonus pic under a read more cut - with blood that soaked up through a groove in the beak and filled the depressed cavity of the symbol, creating a ‘blood moon’ when the weapon was used. Idk, some kind of occult ritual or sacrifice imagery. And there was going to be more realistic weathered textures on the metal. But I ran out of steam at the end.

Heresy background

I was watching a traditional painting tutorial and it was showing how to do a process called ’blocking in’. I messed around a bit trying digitally (using a Procreate brush style similar to a traditional paintbrush) but it didn’t quite have the same effect.

It’s not the best… just an experiment. But it has a charm to it. The criss crossing strokes of the brush were meant to produce a smooth sky without strong movement in any one direction, but accidentally created a lot of movement, particularly near the ground. Almost as if particles of ash were kicking up in an ash storm and catching the light.

I have no idea what that is on the right. It could be Dorian himself or it could be a building. I can’t quite see for the smog.
