That sounds lovely! It's actually been rainy today for no particular reason :) I'm moving into Providence with a few friends who will be attending RISD. I have yet to start the job hunt! I have an MFA but have yet to do much with it and I really do love to write... Not having much luck finding anything that sparks my interest. In the meantime I work retail and will be transferring with my current job. Any job ideas?
Honestly, I think you're pretty lucky to be coming here with a job. They're hard to find sometimes. If you're going to be in the RISD area, that can be pricy from time to time. I'd suggest trying to avoid anything that advertises as student housing, because they're likely to be shitty apartments with loud neighbors. There are some gorgeous places on the east side, but can be pricy. If you're looking to save a bit, you can look into the Oak Hill area of Pawtucket, which would be areas near Pawtucket ave and East Ave, there can be some nicer cheap places there, or the Hope St area, which is sometimes a little pricier. MAKE SURE that you have adequate parking planned. There are a lot of areas with little to none included, or a single driveway that you have to move all the cars around.
Wickenden, Hope, Angell & Thayer streets are all really fun places with lots of interesting bars and restaurants, as well as funky little shops. Good places to wander for an hour or so :D
There is an AWESOME pub/bar on Water St near RISD called The Wild Colonial. It is a very chill place with a pool table and dart board, and a nice selection of brews and a cider on tap.
Check the calendar when you arrive for Waterfire Events, they aren't to be missed!
I hope you enjoy your time in our fair city, it's a wicked awesome place to live, if you ask me :D
