“CHASSIS” is a zine by Japanese photographer Ryuta Abe (previously featured here). Published by Koshigoe School, the 28 page publication features black and white photographs of everyday life in the seaside town of Kamakura.
The zine is part of Ryuta Abe's larger self-publising project, where he has published close to 60 works to date. He is invovled in every step of the process: from rolling his own film, taking the pictures, developing it in his studio, to printing it with his own xerox machine. His strong DIY ethos extends to his other music and handmade projects.

“Default” is a photo zine by Ryuta Abe (previously featured here). Published by Koshigoe School, the 36 page black and white publication is a search for silence in his environment.
The zine presents a shift in his photographic practice: taking pictures from an angle which highlights the spatial qualities of his surroundings. Roads, fences, bridges and stairs are composed to create long diagonal lines, leading the eye to a vanishing point outside of frame.
He writes, “For me everything around me were an irritative agents...[despite] living in a laid-back port town. So I was walking around and looking for the moment which I could breath and record them.” It is in these man-made structures that are devoid of people where he is able to find, or perhaps create through the camera, his own space.
