Splatterhouse (PC Engine)
*Possible Spoilers*
I’ve wanted to play this game for a long time. When I was a young elf growing up in the woods, I found a comic left behind by a group of dwarves traveling through. The comic had an advertisement for this game, where it looked violent and fun and crazy.
Well, I finally got around to playing it, and i must say, it is OK. The art style in the game is great. If you are like me and love classic horror films, you will notice all the homages to classic horror films. The bosses are memorable, giant fetus, mass of flesh with chainsaw arms, a zombie of a giant monster. The over the top gore is fun. A few moments in the game were actually able to startle me, even though the game is nearly 30 years old. The weakest point of the game is the beat em up gameplay. It is very bare bones and there is much better beat em ups, and only two dimensions is a bit rough. The weapons in the game are a very fun addition, there is nothing more satisfying the using a 2 by 4 to smash a zombie into the wall.
In conclusion, it is an alright game that is really sold by its style, and no the combat.
