born in washington dc to an affluent family ( ik shocking ) & as an only child . her mom was practically already a socialite & her dad was climbing the social ladder because hint hint he was already involved in criminal activity when she was born ( as was her mom , but her career was more a front to cover for the fact ) . 

her dad was heavily involved in drug trade , not necessarily like . . . crime family related but he had a reputation & people knew him as a  ‘ drug lord ‘  to those within their VERY inner circle , even though i don’t really have a better way to put it lmao . even now she never really questioned how her dad got involved in this kind of business ? just assumed that it was a generational thing . or that he got involved with the wrong people before she was born & never wanted to fix his affiliations .

her family actually created a charity organization for them to funnel money through without suspicion . including laundering , writing off books , etc . you know , the whole deal of a scam ! this basically helped her family create a front of respectability within the media & painted them as people who could do no wrong . definitely something she will take advantage of when she gets older haha !

arden got involved in this stuff from a young age . when she was fourteen to sixteen , her main purpose was to be the face of her family’s charity . speaking about the cause & how much donations & its volunteers were helping keep them afloat . she obviously knew what her family was doing at the time , but even when she was a kid she was kind of groomed to accept this as her reality . her entire life she kind of became good at putting on specific faces depending on who was with .

her family moved to seoul when she was seventeen only because her father wanted to expand their so - called ‘ charity ‘ & make it more global . it was basically his way of making their family untouchable in their trade . it was also when she was seventeen she started to resent her father for using her as nothing more than a face for his mission ? there was only so much she would be willing to take before it became too much , & it was when she was eighteen did she start looking for ways to act up . arden even started to experiment with her dad’s supply when she was around this age because it felt almost natural for her ?  -  it never became a habit , but she still uses from time to time . no one really knows about this except for a select few . 

became a part of the kumiho when she was nineteen , & the role of lookout actually suits her perfectly because believe it or not , she enjoys being in the background . it allows for her to see things & people that normally wouldn’t show their true colors in front of others .   -  ie , her codename : oculus . also a HUGE part of her involvement is because she wants to beat her parents at something . . . anything .

her persona is extremely . . . ditzy lmao . not necessarily dumb , but she pretends to not be the smartest person around for the very purpose of people thinking she’s not capable . honestly , she has an obsession with proving people wrong & being underestimated ? phew babey ! she also doesn’t open up her real personality to many people because she doesn’t want people to see her as a threat ? she’s obviously not a physical threat lmao , but she has no problem with hurting those who wrong her if it came to it . 

huge issues with authority , i mean . . . huge . probably will ignore rules & warnings until she absolutely has no choice but to follow them . i’m almost sure she loves to create problems that don’t exist but do with that what you will !

dohyun is the last person on earth who should have money, he is the last person who should be allowed to be in control of anything. yet, somehow he is both rich and powerful. a terrible, combination.

he grew up wealthy, thanks to his dad who for majority of his life was a crime boss. he showed dohyun the life of drugs, sex and karma ( reminder to always pay your debts ). 

dohyun is addicted to money, so instead of being in the family business he started his own, now the owner a night club called OLYMPUS. strippers, booze, and VIPs only, no one would ever know that the mobsters he knows work down in the basement, paying him a nice amount of cash every week to rent out his space and to look the other way.

he was rich and he was soulless.

CONNECTION TO THE HEIST

olympus is his pride and joy and he opened it at 18, and he knows how to be a criminal because of his dad. he didn’t join the crime life that his dad wanted but a few months into owning it, and seeing the illicit activities going on down in the basement, he was itching to get back. missing the thrill of it.

one of the guys he knows knew how to get into kumiho and he gave them an offer they couldn’t refuse. a RUNNER who was deeply connected in the mafia + the city, able to get them whatever they wanted, no cost. his golden ticket in. 

he’s been working for them for 4 years and tries to come across as an introverted millionaire who is too busy giving back + running a business to have any time on his hands.

okay so this is going not be poetic or like ... anything just. a bunch of rambling LMAO

born in gangnam on february 11, 1994 to two nationally renowned surgeons and all his life, it was believed he would follow in their footsteps. he was well on his way to the medical field for as long as he can remember, his parents filling his head with medical textbooks, saw his first cadaver when he was eight, even had him watching surgery tapes when he was barely thirteen years old. blood  &  guts were something he became  immune  to, even  fascinated  by. to the point where he was unfazed by some of the goriest scene. horror movies soon became his favourite genre, stephen king books lining his shelves at home as a teenager. posters from cult classics like nightmare on elm street, saw, scream plastered upon dark grey bedroom walls. his passion for the arts was of course shot down by his parents, so he put it aside to please them.

his parents always thought it was strange, but they couldn’t do much about it---- they were constantly working. in fact jaehwan would argue the housestaff had more of a hand in raising him than his actual parents did, but he keeps this to himself--- he keeps most things to himself. despite his upper class upbringing, jaehwan never carried himself with proper etiquette : used profanity rather often, and some might say he has a resting bitch face--- while he did manage to maintain perfect posture, he always looks disinterested in whatever’s going on around him and to a certain extent, that was true. he was always very much aware of the fact that everything he had in life was handed to him, and he often felt bored of that. 

high school he fell into the popular crowd considering his status, but he was always that mysterious and brooding type. he never intentionally tried to include himself, he was just often invited--- everyone wanted to be friends with him, and he never considered any of them close enough for the title. not that any of them really had a chance considering he spent most of his time studying. his parents put a lot of pressure on him to have perfect grades, which he achieved, and this inevitably helped him get into a prestigious university in seoul to study pre-med.

college was when jaehwan started to experiment more with socialising: drinking more, getting high, sleeping around ( this is also the time he realised he was bisexual, and there was no hesitation in coming out, though his parents hardly reacted / do not ever address it ) and he was finally figuring out how to enjoy himself. he enjoyed the freedom. his parents even invested in a house for him close to the university, and he would often host parties ( his halloween parties were the best the campus had ever seen. ) but even with so many people surrounding him, he often found people shallow and he lacked interest in forming actual friendships with anyone. it’s not that he thought he was better than everyone else, he just found it hard to relate to people. he could smile & laugh along with them, even dance and look like he’s having the time of his life, but that would be thanks to the alcohol. as soon as it fades away, he’s back to a closed off and distant persona, standing around with his arms crossed and sighing defeatedly at just about everything.

college was mostly a breeze though, always the top of his class, but jaehwan never felt that any of his achievements were fulfilling ---- it always felt like life was happening to him rather than him taking any sort of control over his life. so instead of following through with his first year surgical internship, he ended up dropping out--- why? because by the time he was twenty-one, he had gotten involved with the kumiho.  becoming involved with the kumiho was more of a strange way of compromising with himself, because he knew he had a gift--- he just didn’t want to waste away in the hospital setting. see, jaehwan gets bored easily, and the life the kumiho offered him was so much more thrilling. 

his decision to opt out of becoming a surgeon left his parents wallowing in disappointment, causing a rift within the family ( not that there was much a difference, they were never that close anyway )  ----  but he hasn’t looked back since.

he’s extremely organised, and tends to wash his hands more frequently than one really needs to. his house is always pristine, and half the time it’s his own work rather than hired maids.

he loves rainy / cloudy weather, anytime the sky looks particularly gloomy.

he has glasses but often switches between them and contacts.

he switched his major to study film ( much to his parents’ dismay ) and now has a degree and is currently seeking inspiration for his first project, and he gained a large following on social media after finally pursuing art as a hobby.

sojin was born in seoul but whisked off to london, england days after just entering the world. her mother was a 17-year-old who put her up for adoption as soon as she was well and able enough. sojin says that it was her destiny to be “abandoned” because she wouldn’t have gotten the chance at life that she did with her adoptive parents

her life was a fairly normal one. she grew up with two loving parents and two younger (also adopted) siblings. sojin had everything she wanted and nothing to complain about yet she always felt she was missing something. from a young age sojin always had the urge to be free

sojin was their child in almost every sense of the word but she always felt she owed them something. like she wasn’t completely there. when she was 18, fresh out of high school sojin told her parents that she was moving to seoul to study. and to potentially find her birth parents. she loved and appreciated her parents for everything they did for her so leaving was hard for her especially since they were the only thing she knew. they always encouraged her to follow her gut so follow she did.

sojin always had a knack for getting away with things she shouldn’t have been doing. even if she’d been caught red-handed she had a way to get out of it and get away with what she came for. she had started out pick-pocketing people when she first moved to seoul. once she realized how easy it was to swindle people she’d moved up to full-on thievery in plain sight. a smile here, a flutter of eyelashes there, a kiss to seal the deal and it was all hers.

for a while, sojin did focus on her studies but they quickly took a back burner when she realized she could literally make a living off of other people. she’d never really had to take initiative for herself because her parents always took care of her. but now that she finally felt that sense of freedom she’d been yearning for, there was no telling how far she’d go.

baekhyun choi was meant to be an olympic athlete, ever since he was a baby he loved to be in the water and basically spent his life there. ever since his parents realized of his talents he’s been enrolled in swim lessons, and was on the swim team, breaking local and national records in his sport. he was someone they always had an eye on.

greatness only comes once in a lifetime and baekhyun knew that, which is why he was being scouted for the olympics already by the age of 13, coaches knowing they needed to train him to be the best that he could be. and he enjoyed it, until it became a chore, and until just a few months before his olympic team try out he decided to let loose.

he was 16, a kid, but his first sip of alcohol and his first puff of smoke, it gave him that same high as being in the pool — maybe even more than that. it became a regular thing with his friends, and even as he started to show up to practice less and less, his talents soared way beyond and he was picked for the olympic team. he would be compete for a gold medal at 16 years old.

they say what happens at the olympics stays there, that there’s a bunch of partying behind the scenes that no one brings up. cocaine, ecstasy, unlimited alcohol — you name it, someone was supplying it. it’s how baekhyun slipped down the slope even further, and hey — how cool was it to be doing lines off your gold medal ??

too bad for baekhyun that it became a habit, an addiction of sorts. he was trying less in swim and trying more for partying. sex. drugs. anything to give him that sort of high. which is why when the pictures of him snorting cocaine and participating in group sex once he was 18 leak to the press, his whole world has suddenly been outed.

he was a disgrace to his family, and to his country. a life that he was addicted to, one that he couldn’t get enough of was one that he had to apologize for. his parents made him hold a press conference, tried to watch what he was doing. and although baekhyun put on the good boy act — nothing was getting through to him. no, he was just falling more and more into a hole that he would never be able to get out of. and more pictures leaked, and more conferences were held, and the more he ruined his reputation the more he wanted it. it was a never ending cycle

at the age of 20, by some miracle, baekhyun was asked back to participate in the olympic team trials, and by some even bigger miracle, he placed the fastest in all of his events. by some grace of whatever God, he was on the team. and after he snorted a line, he went out and did the best press conference of his life, putting the faith back in him and his abilities.

gold medals are fun to win, and even more fun when you’re celebrating with your teammates. but, who knew the rain was going to be that bad ?? who knew that the bus would lose control ?? who knew that all of his teammates would die in that accident and baekhyun, by some stroke of luck, would be the only one alive ?? with survivor's guilt no less.

a year has passed since the accident, and it’s the only thing that has woken him up. he’s starting to get sober, although not completely, he’s trying to become a better person. his parents are constantly reminding him how lucky he is to be alive. and he is constantly fighting with the idea of being the only one alive, and finally living his life the best and healthiest way he can.

Born the illegitimate child of a Russian government-working father and a Korean graphic designer mother, Kai grew up in the blankets of wealth his parents never had - the boy was grateful enough to realize the state of comparison to the families around him, and from an early age he develops a humble and high-minded personality. Thanks to his father’s well-paying job, Kai receives personal schooling and is able to indulge in as many side-activities as he chooses, although the prior solidifies a slight awkwardness in approach to other children his age due to him not being as active in their social circles. Still, Kai is avid in his hobbies - the boy seems to be able to pick up many talents with little effort, most especially being wood carving and singing. Kai takes an extreme liking to the latter, and upon his parents noticing, begins to receive vocal training that will benefit his future. The boy was as happy as happy could be, and never once did he find himself breaking out of the childlike innocence that holds him to the moment. 

Innocence….a beautiful word. But innocence does not save Kai from the heartache to strike him at 11 years old. Too young to realize the exact intricacies of his father’s job, Kai moves on with his life while his father struggles to keep a scandal behind the scenes. Indeed the senior had made a mistake in some financial suites, resulting in the loss of a few tax funds that made anyone but pleased in the matter. His father was able to clean up the mess with no major issues, however, some people were still not satisfied.(edited)Their revenge was solidified when young Kai and his parents were out walking in a park late at night after viewing a recent showing of the boy’s favorite musical, The Nutcracker. Stopping briefly in the cold winter night to pick up a frosted-over flower, Kai was met with the sounds of screaming and bone cracking clattering against his eardrums as he watched on as a group of men surrounded his parents and beat them mercilessly with metal clubs and baseball bats. 

 And then it was over, just like that.

In less than 10 minutes, Kai’s entire life was ripped from his fingers, no inquiry given to why he was spared but only to the beaten and bloodied corpses of his mother and father. He never learned who carried out the act and who gave the orders, but as he watched on at their government state funeral decorated too lavishly for his own tastes, his hands clenched tightly at his sides, he swore he would find out.

Although inheriting all of his parent’s money, young Kai is unable to take on the mantle of responsibility due to the mental weight the incident left on him, and instead leaves Russia to live with his aunt in South Korea, his mother’s homeland. It is luckily for him that he ended up where he was and not in some random orphanage - most of his mother’s immediate family had renounced her for being with a foreigner and having a child before being married, all except for her sister whom had held steadfast in their family ties. After the murder of his parents, the last thing Kai would have wanted was to move thousands of miles away to a country he had never been to, yet he had little say in the matter as he said goodbye to the snow-topped buildings of Moscow and hello to the monstrous sun-lit skyscrapers of Seoul. 

He grows fast, although he never forgets the incident. The once outgoing and playful boy becomes a shell of his former self, a silence filling him as he takes on an icy approach. Kai is grateful for the kindness shown to him by his mother’s sister, and despite meeting her at such a disastrous time, grows fond of the woman and becomes attached to her. She teaches him Korean and English, languages he manages to pick up easily due to his mixed heritage, and he in return teaches her Russian for when she might want to visit his mother’s grave. The two grow to have a nearly inseparable bond, and although he will always hold a place in his heart and mind for his parents, Kai begins to slowly move on and finally heal. However, even at 19 years old, it seems fate is not yet done in sharing with him some of its tragedy. 

It happens quickly - one day she is as bustling and happy and ever, and the next Kai is standing over her body in a hospital bed as a doctor pulls the plug. Pancreatic Cancer, he hears them say, and almost in the blink of an eye he is back in a full circle of grief and mistrust as his heart is shattered before him. The simple pleasantries he has access to thanks to his wealth become insubordinate in comparison to the depression that sets upon him, and if not for an opportunity to present itself to him, Kai thinks he would have let himself rot away without meaning. 

From the flames of promise he had made to his dead parents in finding the perpetrators, so did rise a need to make clear of it. If not at that moment, then at some point would he make sure their heads hung from aged ropes in the winter wind. For the time being, though, his focus switched to something else; the mind. A bullet could get the job done, but Kai more so found himself wanting to understand and bring justice in other ways. Methodical and closed off from the rest of the world, he entered university for psychology and swept through with flying colors, hardly concerned with what other people dwelled on, there were hardly any distractions he allowed to take time away from his work. In the end, Kai graduated valedictorian and was immediately employed by the city’s law force as a criminal psychologist on the side of his own practice, unaware that the very man they were having understand delinquent’s minds was one himself with guarded secrets. Analyzing subjects before court cases, deeming insanity, attempting to extract information....Kai did it all, yet to him no crime was too great, and in every one he saw one of the masked men who had beaten his parents into the ground. This twisted mentality earned, in his eyes, swift punishment ― and with a silver tongue, intrusive methods, and hidden intents, he easily convinced many to initiate their own deaths or sent them to fates worse than death.

Because to him, no price was too great, and no crime too small.

he’s got a little sister, hana, who is now seventeen and haneul’s favorite person in the entire world. when she was diagnosed with blindness and paraplegia, their father saw these medical conditions as imperfections and sent her away to jindo island to be raised by a staff of people. the girl’s as gentle as a flower and watching their own father throw her aside like she was nothing made him incredibly bitter towards his family, especially when their parents refused to visit and simply acted as if she never existed

growing up, he was allowed once a year on her birthday to visit her and spend the day but those visits stopped when he reached the age of sixteen. their father believed it was time for him to start learning about the family business and visiting hana was a distraction that he felt was holding haneul back when really it was one of his biggest motivations

i haven’t thought up how exactly he was recruited and maybe i’ll leave it that way since haneul is a private man. if you asked him how he joined, he’ll probably give some kind of story that sounds like it could be true but will change it when you ask again because he’s a smartass. the important thing is that he dropped out of business school in his last year due to some health complications of his little sister and despite coming from money, his parents definitely would not pay for any kind of medical assistance, so he joined the kumiho at first to pay the expenses but has since stuck with it

he’s lived in seoul his whole life; his mother is a biochemist and his father who has his own law firm

although he has an older sister, he is the crown jewel of the family for his keen interest to follow in his mother’s footsteps, but with a tWiSt~

geun excelled in science during his school years and traveled to america to enroll in college (stanford btw)

his sister also came to america with him to study fashion in california as well

their parents wanted her to be a stem major so they gave her enough money to go to school but told her to never come back

obvs shook by this info, geun told her he would take care of her (spoiler alert: he means it)

instead of being a biochemist like his mom, he decided to major in forensic biology bc the art of evidence he found... fascinating aka he wanted to know why people were stupid enough to leave a trace behind

after graduation, him and his sister decided to fly back home, but remember when she couldn’t return?? well, here’s where it gets juicy...

his parents paid for his housing until he found a lab that he felt comfortable working in, but their condition was that she was not allowed there and they would not pay for her housing

he’s broke!! no job yet!! and his parents won’t help his sister!! so he does what any low key genius would do

after swiping some materials from his mother’s lab (careful not to leave EVIDENCE duh) he started taking a lil peak at his mom’s bio notes as well as things he learned from school

he took capecitabine and extracted some molecules from it to just have the effect of loss of finger prints in a nonpainful way

bottled it and looked into different forums and back alley markets to sell it to criminals and made some profit from it (handsome profit)

when he saw the money he was making from it, he began to experiment with other chemicals and start his own lab at home - for instance, currently working on a lil something something to powderize blood that also acts as a strong bleach/peroxide (that doesn’t show up under luminol/blacklight)

he had the money to house his sister eventually; he started at a forensics lab in seoul and all was good

the money was too nice to stop (although his parents tried to dump boatloads onto him so he wouldn’t have to worry... he only takes a lil bit bc hey free money)

the rest is history... he was given an opportunity and he took it !! bc he loves forensic science but he loves being untraceable even more  !! (due to having to hide his sister and bc it’s just pretty cool ok)
