Your ledger is dripping, it's gushing red, and you think saving a man no more virtuous than yourself will change anything? This is a child at prayer... pathetic! You lie and kill in the service of liars and killers. but they are a part of you, and they will never go away.
❝ it shouldn’t be an issue , i own the place. ❞ nixon’s lips upturned into a sweet smile as he looked down at the familiar patron dining at one of seoul’s trendiest restaurants ; that he coincidentally owned. the waiters around him scrambled to place the tables together —- as he requested. he took a seat that was pulled out for him by a nervous employee ; he’d be sure to tip generously. he then asked for wine that seemed to magically appear upon his request. ❝ i apologize in advance for this strange encounter. there’s a few business sharks eyeing me like i’m a piece of meat. ❞ nixon raised the rim of the wine glass to his lips. ❝ i’d much rather spend my time with you then them. ❞ he said with a wink before taking a generous sip of the cabernet.
〝For me to be out of my natural habitat? that’s enough of an issue itself.〞 kai voices an attempt at humor, leaning back in the far-too comfortable chair (biased, based on the abode at hand). friends were a thinned attachment he didn’t have the luxury of holding onto, but nixon? he would allow only a slight amount of sentiment to knowing the other’s sanity was much needed in the psychologist’s life. in fact, he might have been a bit too willing to know his companion; kai was known to be picky in his acquaintances, for public image and otherwise, and yet all it took with nixon was a simple answer of ‘i’m a businessman’ and the two had become interestingly good friends. at the current rate give it a few more years and they might have even be walking down the aisle, but kai merely believed it to be a cruel joke. 〝nothing I haven’t dealt with, nor seen before.〞 the younger shrugs in a haphazardly manner, rather focusing on his company instead of the atmosphere around him; the mere willingness of the waiters caused his mind to linger on his birthrights awaiting him in russia.〝well aren’t you a charmer, nix, although I can’t say I share the same sentiment.〞 the twinkle within kai’s eye and the smirk donning his lips reads feigned sharpness, teasing seeming a bit more willed these days from the other’s influence. 〝I must say i’m in awe you have yet to buy out all the restaurants in this god-forgotten city....if they all had this interior, i think they’d owe the visit of royalty.〞 he hums as he pours himself his own glass, the corners of his mouth rising in the slightest.〝although, i’m sure you would count in such a category.〞
A SCOFF LEAVES the others lips as he finds himself making his way into the others office. he makes himself at home, as if this was his own office and sits down at the chair in front of kai’s desk, his leg moving to cross over the other. their eyes meet once the other finally looks up from what he was reading, a smirk on dohyun’s face now that he’s caught his attention. “ yes, breaking you out. you might want to be here but i certainly don’t want you to be. ” also, dohyun loved getting into some trouble with the other by his side. he can’t help but roll his eyes as the other calls him kid, although their age gap wasn’t too significant. “ i was thinking we could get a few drinks, help you unwind a little bit. you seem tense and by seem i mean you are and i know that already. ”
Dohyun’s obstinate approach in the matter draws a sigh out of kai’s lips, fingers rubbing in the corners of his eyes in an attempt to clear the weariness present. 〝always keen on being stubborn; I see that nothing’s changed.〞 the russian lets out a light huff of laughter, shaking his head as he once again trains his eyes on the other male. since that night in the bar (a brazen idea kai hardly considered on schedule at the time), either one of them has hardly changed - and even so, neither of them tried to interrupt the natural flow of things. kai believed this to be to their benefit; they didn’t ask questions, and yet they were both eager enough to be in the either’s presence, that of which kai appeared to often be disgruntled about but was grateful for all the same. 〝well aren’t you the observant one.〞 he clicks his tongue, sure of the fact that they both shared that trait. 〝can’t say you’re wrong. and, on the other hand,〞 kai lets out a small sigh as he opens the nearest drawer and drops the papers inside.〝I’ve been at this tonight for longer than usual. maybe you just might be right.....but don’t let it get to your head.〞 he winks quickly, knowing all too well dohyun was already down that path. taking the time to lock the contents inside the confines of his desk, kai leans back in his chair and crosses his arms over his chest. 〝so are we going to the usual? knowing you, i’d suppose some tricks up your sleeve.〞
MAKING HIS WAY THROUGH the hallway, dohyun’s eyes can’t help but watch the abstract paintings on the wall as they pass by. he had been to the other’s office a few times, never for his own benefit, more just to pester the other beyond belief. he finds his way to the others office, lucky for dohyun the door is cracked open a bit, which he takes as an invitation to just walk in. “ long time no see. ” he hums as he sees the other sitting at his desk. “ come on, let’s go, i’m breaking you out of this place. ” his plan was more or less to get kai to step away from his work for even just a few moments. “ and don’t give me any excuses, i don’t want to hear them. ” / @nnumbskxull
Poised, articulate ~ kai’s posture reflects a man deep in study, evident by both his state of dress and the environment delved in. a pristine charcoal grey suit, glasses more out of habit than anything poised on the tip of his nose, papers filled with fine text between slender fingers; the psychologist holds an air of importance and dedication towards the usual wednesday-night paperwork at hand, so much so he hardly registers the newly-added presence in his room. unlike most, his reaction isn’t anything more than unbothered by the voice, a hum reverberating out of his throat in feigned understanding.〝long time no see to you too.〞he speaks still intent on the work at hand, although in his thoughts, kai knows he had seen dohyun probably last friday. 〝breaking me out?〞 the russian pauses, pausing a page-turn and raising his gaze over the rim of his glasses to glance over towards the other.〝you’re making it sound like I don’t want to be here.〞 despite his words, both know it’s quite the opposite. paperwork was as much of an enjoyment as candy to a kid, the solace of kai’s office a retreat more than a burden. but dohyun? he always attempted to break such a cycle, and strangely the elder hardly saw it as a vice. 〝hm. i’m surprised, that’s wise coming from you, kid.〞 the term is endearing as anything that could come out of kai’s mouth, dropping the papers onto the desk and pulling his glasses off with them. 〝so tell me.〞 an eyebrow raises, questioning in his tone as he watches the visitor carefully despite having quite a few answers. 〝exactly where do you hope to smuggle such a prisoner off to?〞

( im jaebeom, male, he/him, 26. ) — i hear that KAI SOKOLOV has been living in seoul for around 8 YEARS and works as a/an CRIMINAL PSYCHOLOGIST. rumor has it, they can be LEVEL-HEADED & KNOWLEDGEABLE but also VENGEFUL & MANIPULATIVE which is why a judge’s blood-soaked robes, ancient textbooks coated in dust, and bruised hand prints around one’s throat make me think of them.

Born the illegitimate child of a Russian government-working father and a Korean graphic designer mother, Kai grew up in the blankets of wealth his parents never had - the boy was grateful enough to realize the state of comparison to the families around him, and from an early age he develops a humble and high-minded personality. Thanks to his father’s well-paying job, Kai receives personal schooling and is able to indulge in as many side-activities as he chooses, although the prior solidifies a slight awkwardness in approach to other children his age due to him not being as active in their social circles. Still, Kai is avid in his hobbies - the boy seems to be able to pick up many talents with little effort, most especially being wood carving and singing. Kai takes an extreme liking to the latter, and upon his parents noticing, begins to receive vocal training that will benefit his future. The boy was as happy as happy could be, and never once did he find himself breaking out of the childlike innocence that holds him to the moment.
Innocence….a beautiful word. But innocence does not save Kai from the heartache to strike him at 11 years old. Too young to realize the exact intricacies of his father’s job, Kai moves on with his life while his father struggles to keep a scandal behind the scenes. Indeed the senior had made a mistake in some financial suites, resulting in the loss of a few tax funds that made anyone but pleased in the matter. His father was able to clean up the mess with no major issues, however, some people were still not satisfied.(edited)Their revenge was solidified when young Kai and his parents were out walking in a park late at night after viewing a recent showing of the boy’s favorite musical, The Nutcracker. Stopping briefly in the cold winter night to pick up a frosted-over flower, Kai was met with the sounds of screaming and bone cracking clattering against his eardrums as he watched on as a group of men surrounded his parents and beat them mercilessly with metal clubs and baseball bats.
And then it was over, just like that.
In less than 10 minutes, Kai’s entire life was ripped from his fingers, no inquiry given to why he was spared but only to the beaten and bloodied corpses of his mother and father. He never learned who carried out the act and who gave the orders, but as he watched on at their government state funeral decorated too lavishly for his own tastes, his hands clenched tightly at his sides, he swore he would find out.
Although inheriting all of his parent’s money, young Kai is unable to take on the mantle of responsibility due to the mental weight the incident left on him, and instead leaves Russia to live with his aunt in South Korea, his mother’s homeland. It is luckily for him that he ended up where he was and not in some random orphanage - most of his mother’s immediate family had renounced her for being with a foreigner and having a child before being married, all except for her sister whom had held steadfast in their family ties. After the murder of his parents, the last thing Kai would have wanted was to move thousands of miles away to a country he had never been to, yet he had little say in the matter as he said goodbye to the snow-topped buildings of Moscow and hello to the monstrous sun-lit skyscrapers of Seoul.
He grows fast, although he never forgets the incident. The once outgoing and playful boy becomes a shell of his former self, a silence filling him as he takes on an icy approach. Kai is grateful for the kindness shown to him by his mother’s sister, and despite meeting her at such a disastrous time, grows fond of the woman and becomes attached to her. She teaches him Korean and English, languages he manages to pick up easily due to his mixed heritage, and he in return teaches her Russian for when she might want to visit his mother’s grave. The two grow to have a nearly inseparable bond, and although he will always hold a place in his heart and mind for his parents, Kai begins to slowly move on and finally heal. However, even at 19 years old, it seems fate is not yet done in sharing with him some of its tragedy.
It happens quickly - one day she is as bustling and happy and ever, and the next Kai is standing over her body in a hospital bed as a doctor pulls the plug. Pancreatic Cancer, he hears them say, and almost in the blink of an eye he is back in a full circle of grief and mistrust as his heart is shattered before him. The simple pleasantries he has access to thanks to his wealth become insubordinate in comparison to the depression that sets upon him, and if not for an opportunity to present itself to him, Kai thinks he would have let himself rot away without meaning.
From the flames of promise he had made to his dead parents in finding the perpetrators, so did rise a need to make clear of it. If not at that moment, then at some point would he make sure their heads hung from aged ropes in the winter wind. For the time being, though, his focus switched to something else; the mind. A bullet could get the job done, but Kai more so found himself wanting to understand and bring justice in other ways. Methodical and closed off from the rest of the world, he entered university for psychology and swept through with flying colors, hardly concerned with what other people dwelled on, there were hardly any distractions he allowed to take time away from his work. In the end, Kai graduated valedictorian and was immediately employed by the city’s law force as a criminal psychologist on the side of his own practice, unaware that the very man they were having understand delinquent’s minds was one himself with guarded secrets. Analyzing subjects before court cases, deeming insanity, attempting to extract information....Kai did it all, yet to him no crime was too great, and in every one he saw one of the masked men who had beaten his parents into the ground. This twisted mentality earned, in his eyes, swift punishment ― and with a silver tongue, intrusive methods, and hidden intents, he easily convinced many to initiate their own deaths or sent them to fates worse than death.
Because to him, no price was too great, and no crime too small.
