The #village #temple Situated in the centre of the village. The actual #goddess ( #Deviramma)stays at the foothills of #Kunthi #Betta in a non descriptive area. Every year in mid #February the the stone #door is moved aside. And the prayers and Pooja starts. A large big sounding drum ( #Hebbare) is carried in to village and kept in the temple overnight. #Festive mood, #singing, #dancing and various activities happens past #midnight. In the morning the Hebbare is moved out in a procession. The people sit on the road in a single line. The Hebbare moves on their heads, with beating of the drums. The sound produced so near to your head and body, removes all ills. That is what the belief here! The Hebbare reaches the temple and the fair starts. It goes on until the evening and at the #sunset the temple stone door is closed until the next year. Each village has a goddess which protects the the village and the people. It is always a lady responsible for the village, a sign of #matriarchal power for the #centuries.
