1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?
Kuwabara/Yukina. She will CANONICALLY DIE IF HE GETS HER PREGNANT! I think the fandom largely ignores this part of canon, but I can’t write the two of them together unless I specify that their relationship is celibate because of this part of canon. Kuwabara would NEVER risk Yukina’s safety on purpose, and I think their relationship is fundamentally doomed as a result. (But if you write an ace Kuwabara with Yukina? I could dig that. It’s when people write them having a half-breed child or don’t even acknowledge the canonical barriers preventing the success of their relationship that I get squicked.)
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?
Meh, probably Kurama and Hiei. Hiei is too emotionally constipated for me to really write him into a relationship with someone as self-aware as Kurama. If a fic takes the time to mature Hiei and show his growth, cool, I’ll buy that. It’s just that most fics I’ve read with them... don’t? Or Hiei reads as OOC and way too emotional/communicative. Basically I don’t see their canon personalities working out, but in the hands of a talented writer, I can buy it if they take care to develop Hiei properly. (I also feel that way when Hiei is in fics with OCs or other canon cast members, so that’s not limited to Kurahie, either.)
11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?
YUKIMIRA KEIKO, GODDAMMIT. Whether she’s the canon version or NQK, I love her to death. She’s smart, has a spine of steel, knows who she is and doesn’t take shit. She knows her worth! We could all learn something from Keiko, that’s for sure.
The fandom hates her for no good reason and because she’s just like us, unpowered and normal, but people don’t want to admit they’re not actually special.
