OH MY GOD THE DARK ALTERNATE VERSION THOUGH I LOVE THAT ONE SOOOO MUCH i've re-read it a couple times and i've honestly had to just like pretend you were planning on making stiles like obsessively learn everything about magic and somehow bring derek back from the dead and then happy ever after!!!! is it terrible that i like that angsty version even better? lmao <3

Haha, oh no it's not terrible. There's nothing wrong with some angst now and again. I love that version too, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I can totally see Stiles trying to find a way to bring Derek back; he'd be haunted by his "failure", and he's the one who finds solutions. I'd kind of love to read or write that fic - Stiles burying himself in research, the rest of the pack thinking he's losing it but him refusing to give up....

I think what ultimately makes both endings work so well for me is that I switched where the bullet was, and in my mind that's exactly what would happen in each given situation. If Stiles was holding the gun when the bullet came up, he would find a way to save Derek. And if Derek was holding the gun, he'd absolutely sacrifice himself.
