This will save me a trip to the local café— " Their fingers brushed at the exchange, and the warmth of an ordinary coffee cup around his palm was not nearly enough of a boon compared to the spark that came with their ... numerous outings. He preferred it that way. Suiren preferred it that way. It was as much a give as it was a take, mutually beneficial: when the melatonin wasn't enough, when the perspiring rivulets of a miscellany of unnamed emotion left a patch across the back of his sleep shirt; when Suiren couldn't sleep themself, listless, and their thumb hovered over the send button, a text hastily typed. When his phone vibrated at his side and he pulled himself out of bed, reaching for his keys. It began as one night. Was supposed to be one night, per Suiren's request, until it wasn't. Until no remaining excuses were in the bounds of realism and just the want to feel needed was sufficient.

" — And give me some time to myself. " His job was a twenty minute walk, barring his quick stop at the café. Less time if he decided to drive instead. Nanami was not ignorant to subtlety and their many faces, how it morphed and formed into the face that was staring back at him. Perhaps ... expectant. Suiren was not an open book by any means, but they were obvious. He didn't need vocal confirmation as to the actual intent that lurked underneath the surface. And because of their endless generosity, Nanami had one hour before he had to make for his office. He was always punctual, ten minutes early. No more and no less. he’d been here nearly all day. not that he could really complain , he didn’t mind his time spent with suiren at work. for the past few hours he sat with an earbud in watching some videos on his phone. it served as a welcome escape from the turmoil elsewhere. perhaps that's why his visits had become so frequent , almost a daily ritual over the past few weeks. sometimes he’d talk the other's ear off , enjoying just being listened to. or , like today , just sitting in silence while itadori did whatever to keep himself busy.

❝ i feel like it is. ❞ look, he's all about downplaying things. megumi is the first to promise something doesn't hurt, the first to play off a wound as nothing but a scratch when he's really nicking it close to death. but when he crouches down to them, eyes scanning over that gash, megumi's got a plan on how fast he can get them to shoko for a look. he's a bit worried, though he's seen suiren come in with far worse injuries, laughing it off with gojo as if they're nothing but accessories before. a bloody finger there, a possibly infected gnash across their thigh — it's enough to make megumi unbothered by it. ❝ how did you even manage that? ❞ the question rolls off crudely, megumi cringing at the apathetic words. he's not good around people that are hurt. he coughs it off, feigning it — he cares. (it's just hard to admit you care about someone when everyone around you keeps dropping like flies.) ❝ i really think we should tell gojo-sensei. just in case. ❞

After all, you're not always guarantee to come back from a mission alive.

Truth be told, knowing Shiki & how she is around others. Her outward opinion on Shunsui was about as normal as it came- He was just a good captain, a little lazy at times, but he was a good man. Once she had her first son and his father abandoned her she did end up closing herself off, I've mentioned Shiki's not big on romance in general but over time as she properly got to know Shunsui she started slowly opening herself up with him. She still has the same views, but she also knows she can rely on him, they both have some form of undying loyalty to each other and she would risk her life to keep him alive and in return vice versa. Shiki's never really been someone to be openly loving with someone but behind closed doors she can be, she's a quiet type of intimacy person. And while she still holds herself back from properly allowing herself some form of happiness with him, she can at least show it in how loyal and devoted she is to him. Her views never change on him, but she does always hold him on a level higher than herself- in her eyes, she's undeserving of how much love she gets from him, but she will return it quietly.

They actually met WAY before either of them joined the Wandenreich or when Margaret found the girls. She was working as a plague doctor during the Bubonic Plague/Black Death era Germany, they met while she was working in a village ravaged by the plague- a bit before she found her daughters Alison and Katherine. Reb and I haven't plotted much for these two but we're workin on it, so I can't really give a proper concrete answer other than that one. ;;
