nonoomf recently i dug up your old kushiel playlist from like 2023 and it's been getting me more interested in his character but like there's 0 thoughts about him anywhere so i'd love to know your thoughts on him
hellloooooo yes I’d be thrilled. He’s one of those characters that don’t have a lot of lore so a fair chunk of it is just my interpretation/based off of things Hamish has said outside of the book:
To me Kushiel is someone suffering under his own belief. He believes in the superiority of the angels while hating himself and others because of it. It’s kind of the case of someone so brainwashed they can’t recognize what’s hurting them
it’s really important to note that while creatures are sorted into different planes, they can still join the angels. Kushiel, being someone from the 9th plane, is far from what’s expected of angels. He accepts everything the angels say, completely convinced and horrified by the demons around him. And yet the moment he gives himself up to the angels his body is concealed with masks and armor to make him more ‘angelic’. He probably would’ve worked for ages to get to into the position of power he’s in, especially being one of the few ‘demons turned angels’ we’ve seen. He might not even be that convinced by the angels anymore, but it’s all he has to live for.
ok anyways besides the fact that he hates his life I think kushiels a pretty unique guy. He’s someone who’s veryyy stoic and work-focused, with little time or interest for much else. He’s very flat-toned and rarely expresses much. What a guy
smaller details I don’t know how to elaborate on:
His kind of ‘animalistic’ appearance is an insecurity for him.
he’s gentle to children and nobody else
carnivorous (I swear on my LIFE hamish said something about angels being vegetarian and anyone that ate meat just had to deal with it. Cant find the message. Do with that what you will)
An “I’m not a bad dog, I don’t know why I bite” kind of guy
