“ H E L P ! ” | Adalia, she was trapped and injured in a cave in a deep forest
@theternalflame
The river was a gurgling line of silver running in happily singing curves along trees so old and tall they looked like still wardens sitting along the riverbank, along rocks so big and unmoveable they looked as if they had grown out of the soft forestground, along of firneedles covered floors that was turned into hills by treeroots reaching out from the ground like angry hands ready to grasp her and make her fall. At least make anyone else fall who was not so used to living on the road as the traveling musician who walked easily past them with only an echo of ache in her once shattered bones. The river had left behind the road long ago at the edge of the forest, but still it was for the woman with the much too keen ears easier to follow than taking the long road around the forest for which she would have needed all day in the stark summersun until her back was burned to a crisp and every step felt as if she was waling on needles. But every river lead to a city eventually for her to find work in. But beside the river it was coolcompared to the summerheat on the road. But beneath the shadow of the trees it was save from the burning summersun.
When on the road moments had passed by in burning stitches into her skin, along the river hours passed by slowly and refreshing with only the singing of the river as her happy companion.
It was well past afternoon with the light falling through the canopy of green needles above her head turning red and dyeing the river beside her prettily pink, when Senritsu heard the first voice she had heard since three says since she had left the last city.
Days since she had heard a human speak,Senritsu stopped startled in her tracks as if she had been slapped.
The voice was this far away nothing but a whisper,disorted by smacking against rocks brutally and vibrating from something that was even this far away so clear to hear: fear. And pain. And panic. Someone who was scared,someone who was in pain,someone who was crying from desperation, called for help. And the sound alone digged into Senritsus guts painfully like a metalrod, so only imagining what the person must feel like when their call for hep made her feel this way was even worse.
Senritsu did not hestiated to leave the riverbank, after all it was so loud he could easily find her way to it again at any time. She was there, she could help,so she had to help. The forest with the thick shadows hanging between the firtrees swallowed her like an black mouth. "I hear you!", the woman called loudly and it sounded so very wrong in the stillness between the trees: "Don´t stop calling! I am coming for you!" The echo o the call of help was still so loud in her ears:female, she figuered. In pain, she figured. Taller than her, she figured. The same age, she figured. Probably disorted by an injury or by beeing so long already in that horrible situation, she figured. But She was there, but she could help,so she had to help.
A few moments away from the riverbank the sound of her steps changed- instead of beeing softned by the layers of firtrees the song of her steps became sharper,almost loud in her much too keen ears. Senritsu stopped and digged her left heel carefully into the thin layer of firtrees to than hit solid rock- she had been told that the area was covered in great rocks from worn down mountains, so did the person she heard calling had fallen in one of the many tunnels between those rocks on which the forest grew? They must have felt as if swallowed by the ground, she figured.They must feel scared, stuck in a vertical tunnel with the little light falling through the trees suddenly so far away. She was there, she could help,so she had to help. The thought alone was a fist grabbing her insides and crushing them painfully, so Senritsu took her wander-stick to run the tip over the floor infront of her to listen for any tunnel-entrnces that could open up unseen before her so she too would not fall while she walked towards he echo of the call for help still so painfully, desperately loud in her ears.She was there, she could help,so she had to help.
