If the anticipation hasn’t gotten to you, tattooist and beauty arbiter Kat Von D has been dropping hints left and right when it comes to her makeup line. With the confirmation on a Too Faced Collab, color additions for her matte Everlasting liquid lipstick and the newly released limited edition grungy Serpentina palette that just hit Sephora shelves this week, Kat Von D isn’t slowing down.

The exclusive, Serpentina palette is Cleopatra-inspired and comes in eight new rich shades with a loose pigment, named after Egyptian antiquities, such as“Hieroglyph” and “Ankh.” It is no surprise that Kat would jump on the ever-popular rainbow makeup train, with a palette that is much more temperamental than other brand offerings. You can pick up this palette online at Sephora for $45.

In other Kat Von D news... She is collaborating with Too Faced! You don’t typically think about the two brands meshing, with Kat Von D’s line paying a tribute to everything gothic rock n’ roll and Too Faced capitalizing on the sweet side of makeup, with products like chocolate soufflé bronzer and heart shaped packaging. However, I’m convinced it will be every bit good girl meets the dark side.

As if that was enough KVDB news, she recently proclaimed that she is reformulating her products to be 100% vegan, reflecting her own lifestyle. So that means all animal byproduct ingredients from diary, honey, beeswax and Carmine (a dye derived from insects) are getting the boot. It’s not only about being cruelty free, but making products that makeup and animal lovers alike can enjoy. Besides, who really needs a hot pink eyeshadow? There is no word on when the reformulated products will be available, but animal lovers can rejoice.

If you’re not one of Kat’s 4.5 million Instagram followers, you probably missed out on the preview of the new Alchemist palette set to come out next year. According to Kat, this has been seven years in the works. She didn’t share much information on the contents of the palette, suggesting in the caption that “Don’t even try and guess what this special ‘palette’ is, cuz I promise you won’t!” But what we can tell from the video is that the white opulent, iridescent triangle palette is out of this world with the embossed gothic “A”.  So just what is in this palette? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Some fans have proposed that its highlighter.

Honestly, I can’t wait for all of these exciting, must-have-now products, so stay tuned. If the Mi Vida Loca palette was any indication of the high demand of her limited edition products then keep refreshing that Sephora page to get a chance at buying the Serpetina Palatte, available now!

Nieuwe Piet is gewoon oude Piet

'Manmanman', wie 'KvdB' gisteravond een beetje volgde (ging vanzelf, ook mét in Tweetdeck geblokkeerde hashtag) kon zijn lol op. Je verwacht natuurlijk iets debiels bij een 'nieuwe Piet', maar dat het 'compromisvoorstel' eigenlijk gewoon weer gewoon dezelfde zwarte piet (donkere schmink in een gek pakkie) zou zijn, dat had denk ik niemand verwacht. (In mijn herinnering waren 'Zwarte Pieten' trouwens soms al bruin, zo zien we ook bij de 'oude piet' in dit voorbeeld) Een Piet die zijn kroeshaar heeft laten relaxen? Wat is hier de bedoeling van?

In ieder geval waren voor- én tegenstanders het dan voor de verandering wel weer eens lekker eens. (Wellicht is dat de truc, tegenstanders een groter schrikbeeld geven en voorstanders laten inzien dat je zo schminken misschien ook op zijn minst een beetje curieus is?)

De Paarse Piet hieronder is trouwens niet het gevolg van een slecht afgesteld toestel, maar weer een ánder 'beter' voorstel, zo begrijpen we.

Centrum Volkscultuur

Het is natuurlijk sowieso vreemd dat er mensen lijken te zijn die denken dat we in en programma even iets nieuws presenteren en dat 'Nederland' dan denkt "Nee, mooi, ja, gaan we dat wel doen".

Subsidieclubje (geen overheidsorgaan) 'Nederlands Centrum Volkscultuur en Immaterieel Erfgoed' heeft in ieder geval lekker bij polderclubjes aan de overlegtafel mogen aanschuiven en heeft een avondje mogen doen dat ze -god weet wie- vertegenwoordigen en dat er toch een serieus compromisvoorstel was uitgedacht. 

Uitsmijter is dat de 'Pieten' dus 50 Euro hebben gekregen om zich zo te laten schminken.
