NAKED AND AFRAID: danganronpa edition.
( without the naked. )
disorientation; and an immediate feeling of unfamiliarity and uncertainty. her mind slowly comes to and before her eyes even open, maki can sense that the place she’s in is definitely NOT the place she fell asleep the night before. a warped sense of déjà vu seizes her mind, instilling a rare sense of FEAR into the usually composed, calm girl. time around her runs at a sluggish pace as consciousness regains and maki immediately fears the worst.
not again, not again, not again, not again─
maroon eyes fly open. she bolts upright, immediately shielding her eyes from the sun’s rays, bearing down relentlessly. there’s been no physical harm done to her body─ she recognizes this right away─, rather, nothing more than a dry throat, and it wasn’t like she hadn’t dealt with that before. as her vision becomes clearer, maki takes in the surrounding scenery: woodlands, yet no immediate sign of life. it was unnerving and created an uneasy aura that had even her on edge. she searches her memories for a possible explanation,
or, perhaps, it’s memories of a similar awakening that have maki forgetting any sense of peace she’d found since arriving at the city. in actuality, it’s only taken her a few seconds to come out of her daze. she KNOWS that working herself up won’t do any good. she exhales, reigning in herself. she knows better than to let a sheer moment of surprise catch her off like that-! with a newfound focus, maki continues to scan the clearing. the next thing she sees catches her off guard once more ( has she grown softer..? ).
❝ saihara? ❞ she gawks upon seeing her downed, but alive, classmate. in a haste, with agility as if she’d never been unconscious in the first place, she’s at his side with hands hovering over his shoulders as if she’s unsure whether it’s appropriate to shake him awake or not. ❝ hey, saihara. get up─ ❞ the command is firm but it’s only mere seconds before another factor presents itself. as her attention had been captured the moment eyes fell upon saihara, she hadn’t thought to simply turn around; a careless, beginner’s mistake. ( was this a result of caring for someone? ).
in the same clearing sits ouma kokichi. his presence unlocks a new wave of questions, uncertainty, and suspicion.
❝ ouma, ❞ though her tone harbors no venom and she’s not about to lash out at him, there’s a slight edge in her voice fueled by the chaos of this all, ❝ what’s going on here? ❞ her eyes lock onto him but she doesn’t move to leave saihara’s side, and doesn’t plan to until he’s up. she has little faith he’ll know any more than she does, but coherent thoughts don’t quite come easily when the looming fear of the worst hangs over her head.
