Our Decorated Home ~ Kwon Jiyong
Your eyes widened as you walked down to the bottom of the apartment block, noticing a familiar car pulling into the parking lot. Your pace immediately picked up as you threw the rubbish that you had into the bin, heading back upstairs.
There were only a few minutes before Jiyong would be home as you let yourself back into the apartment, hurrying around the place to make sure that everything was spotless, exactly as you wanted it to be able to impress Jiyong.
You made sure that the front door was shut so that you would be able to hear the key go in, passing by as you threw a few empty boxes into the spare bedroom of his apartment, leaving them to worry about once Jiyong had arrived home.
In just a few minutes, as you expected, the key went into the front door. You turned the main light off as you raced across to the front door to greet him, using the lamp just beside the door as your only source of light as the door opened.
“Welcome home,” you smiled as you met Jiyong’s eyes, taking a step to the side so that he could walk into his home. “How was your day at work?” You then asked him.
“Miserable,” he scoffed in reply, throwing his bag to the floor. “It’s only a week before Christmas and I’m still having to work on music, it’s impossible for me to have fun.”
You smiled sympathetically back across at Jiyong, wrapping your arm around his shoulders. “I have something that I think might be able to brighten up your day a little bit though.”
For weeks Jiyong had been complaining about the lack of time he had. It was your first Christmas together, and still his apartment was without decoration, with most of his presents still to buy too, without even thinking of finding the time to visit his family in between.
“What’s the one thing that you’ve wanted to do Jiyong?”
“Sleep,” he laughed, watching on as your head shook back at him, the corners of your smile turning upwards too. “Alright, aside from sleep, I’ve really wanted to start feeling Christmassy.”
Your head nodded as his answers began to fall more in line with what you wanted him to say. “Well, as I’ve had the day off today, I’ve decided to do just that for you.”
“How can you do that when I’ve been at work all day Y/N?”
You unwrapped your arm from around his frame, walking across to just beside the front door, switching on the main light. Your eyes focused on Jiyong’s face as his eyes lit up at how different the living room was. There were Christmas decorations everywhere, covering just about every surface in the room, just as you knew Jiyong wanted.
“Welcome to our decorated home.”
“Did you really do all of this today? It must have taken ages,” Jiyong grinned.
“I had a bit of help bringing everything up, but once I got started, it took no time at all.”
Jiyong’s head shook in disbelief as he began to walk around the room, admiring the efforts that you had gone to. It was more than he could have ever imagined, especially for your first Christmas together.
“You can move things around if you think it’ll fit better somewhere else, I just wanted to have everything unpacked for when you got home.”
You moved around the room to catch up with Jiyong, feeling his arm wrap around your waist as he pulled you in close. A soft kiss was pressed against the crook of your neck, which straight away you could feel the appreciation from, knowing just how much what you had done would mean to Jiyong, taking away plenty of stress for him too.
It wasn’t quite perfect just yet, but you knew with a bit of input from Jiyong the decorations would be placed around his home perfectly so that they suited the two of you.
“I can’t believe you did this,” he whispered across to you, “I’ve been so stressed about all of this. You even managed to find a tree; I thought all the places would be empty by now.”
“It was the last one at the market,” you chuckled in reply, “it’s pretty heavy too. I had to get Daesung to help me bring it up and even still we struggled to move it.”
“Did you not manage to buy any decoration for it?”
“We did,” you simply responded, watching as Jiyong’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion, “but I thought that maybe decorating the tree could be something that we do together.”
Although you wanted to get the majority of the decorations up before Jiyong arrived home, the one thing you knew he loved was decorating the Christmas tree. You made sure that you bought plenty of items to decorate with, keeping them safe whilst you unpacked everything else.
“Does that mean that we still get to decorate our very first Christmas tree together?” Jiyong asked, letting go of a chuckle as your head nodded back at him. “I don’t even know what to say to you right now other than thank you, this means the world.”
“I just wanted to make life a little bit easier for you, you shouldn’t stress about Christmas.”
Grateful wasn’t even good enough to describe how Jiyong felt for you as you stepped out of his hold to pull out the boxes of decorations that you had bought for your tree. With every item, Jiyong’s expression brightened, blown away by the efforts that you had gone to.
Once everything was out, you invited Jiyong closer towards the tree, allowing him to take a look and admire the first real Christmas tree that he had managed to have in years.
“This is the perfect thing for me to come home to after the day that I’ve had too Y/N.”
For days you had listened to Jiyong stress over work, desperate to get things done so that he at least had a couple of days during the holidyas to be able to spend with you.
“It’s one less thing for you to get annoyed about, one less thing to have on your list of things to do.”
Jiyong’s head nodded in agreement with you, “I’m still sorry that I wasn’t able to be here to help you do what you’ve done today.”
“I understand that you need to work,” you reminded him with a smile, pushing the sofas back to give the two of you more space. “It’s Christmas, you need to just enjoy the holidays, even if most of that time is spent in your studio.”
“I still feel bad that I’m not able to spend the time that I’d like here with you,” Jiyong frowned, beginning to tear the tape off of one of the bauble boxes, “our first Christmas is supposed to be special, and right now it feels as if we’re so far.”
“You’re here right now,” you teased in reply, earning yourself a glare from Jiyong. “I’ve told you before, I appreciate that you’re busy, I’m never going to pressure you into spending time with me when I know that you’re needed elsewhere.”
Jiyong smiled softly in response to you, “it’s Christmas now though, it’s a time when you’re supposed to be with your family.”
“And when you can be with your family, you are,” you continued to argue, refusing to let Jiyong feel bad about how hard he was working, “the more you get done now, the more of Christmas you’ll be able to spend here, the build-up doesn’t matter.”
“The build up is all part of the fun,” Jiyong protested, “what’s fun about decorating an apartment for Christmas all by yourself?”
“It wasn’t so bad,” you laughed, resting your hand against his shoulder as he continued to unpack, “I had all of the Christmas songs on that you usually hate, and the speaker at a much higher volume then you ever let me.”
His eyes rolled as he found himself unable to argue with you, at least relieved that you had enjoyed yourself, even if you were alone.
“I suppose before we start decorating, I should turn the speaker back down,” you joked, taking a step back across to the device.
However, as you started to move, Jiyong reached out and pulled you back across. “Leave it at the volume that you have it, I think it might get me feeling a bit more Christmassy if I have the songs playing nice and loud.”
“Are you sure? That’s unlike you to be so nice.”
“It’s the least I can do really,” he smiled, “look at all that you’ve done.”
“I did it because I wanted to.”
Jiyong’s head nodded, although you wanted to do it, it didn’t change how appreciate he was to you for all of it.
“Looking around this place, I’m finally starting to feel a little bit Christmassy,” Jiyong admitted in a whisper.
“That’s all that I wanted from all of this.”
