General Opinion: AAAH, THESE TWO.... It’s been... Three years? I think three years. And I still love their interactions. They’ve never really become friends, (or not YET, ahaha... we can dream,) but their relationship has definitely grown and evolved significantly over that time. The best part about it though is that no matter how much they change and grow, there’s always room for more growth, and they just never get boring. I love that!! They’re probably never gonna get together in canon, since Kyer is happily taken and Shibui is happily gay, but it’s definitely fun to play around with their dynamic as a romantic pair in AU. <3

1. What do their love letters look like?Hhhhhhahahhaha, oh boy... Honestly, I'm having trouble imagining them writing love letters... Uhm, humandryx AU-wise, I think Shibui might sort of write a little letter to him saying how much she appreciates him, but never show it to him. Aaand he might accidentally find it, and decide to write a letter back, saying how much he appreciates her back, and what he likes about her, and then Shibui would get all flustered and try to write a letter back but ends up just doing a bunch of drafts that she crumples up and finally she just sends him one of those thank you greeting cards with a little chocolate or something inside. Big nerd. Kyer would laugh at her & tease her and then kiss her on the cheek and Shibui would smack him a bit. 

2. First impressions of each other: For Kyer, distrust and dislike, because of the whole thing with her ditching kit-sitting duty... For Shi, discomfort because of his reaction, and a little fear ‘cause she thought she was gonna get in trouble... and then some dislike because honestly, who’d he think he was trying to tell her what to do and how to feel about it? He didn’t understand anything. In retrospect, I think it’s really interesting how this first interaction went on to shape their entire relationship. I think if they’d had a positive first meeting, they never would have had such a negative relationship. It would definitely have been very different!

3. A short headcanon for the pair:HMMMM....... I’m waffling between doing a canon compliant headcanon or a humandryx one, so I will do both!! In human (college!) AU, I really like the concept of Shibui coming over to just kinda hang out in his place between classes (I started writing a thing about this that I need to finish) and Kyer has roommates but they’re usually busy bc I said so, like they take more classes, and Shibui just likes to sit on the couch with her legs drawn up and watch Kyer move around the house ‘cause he has these little habits like trailing his fingers on the surface of furniture and walls which is an old habit he used to sort of orient himself when he couldn’t see as well, and he’ll make them drinks or snacks or something and he reads and Shibui just sits and chills because sometimes she needs to just relax with someone and not worry about things. Or maybe they play cards, or when she’s feeling better, they play a boardgame, but like one of the ones with lots of pieces, like mousetrap or monopoly, and they throw the pieces at each other when they’re losing and they laugh a lot, which is good for them both. UHM. This is getting long, but a quick canon-y headcanon, I like the idea at some point of Shibui just sitting down and telling Kyer everything about herself in the most unbiased way she can manage, because she’s held everything inside her for so long, or told it in an intentionally self-demonizing way, and she just wants to get the facts out as they are, and at the end she goes, “With all of that said, and everything you know about me from before, will you judge me?” Like, a literal request for him to judge her, now that he knows everything. And it doesn’t matter what he says, because he knows everything, so even if he’s biased, at least he’s got the full picture. And she’d be happy with whatever he said, because it feels like, finally, closure on their big ridiculous whatever they have.

4. Any themes? (BECAUSE WHY NOT):Flaws by Bastille!! You suggested it, and tbh it is perfect. Also, if we’re getting more to the romantic side (and humandryx), Never Look Away by Vienna Teng.

Thea, you are new here. Have there been any cats you have particularly enjoyed since joining the tribes? On the flip-side, have there been any cats you'd like to avoid in the future?

Thea: I haven’t been as proactive or successful at making friends as I wish I had been, but Kyer was one of the first cats I met, and he was very nice! I like Kakia a lot too, she’s really really funny, and more recently, Tufty! -Giggles- Tufty and Hedgehog, and I’m Fleabutt! The two of them, together they’re really a riot, it’s so much fun to listen to! Hehe... And, oh, I forgot, there’s a tom I met from another tribe, he says his name is Frog. He seems pretty meek and shy, but it’s kinda sweet? I’m a little worried about where things might go with him, but hes definitely nice. And... I don’t think a lot of cats have been nice to him. which is kind of sad.

Overall though, everyone has been really great, and super welcoming! In fact, not a single cat has been nasty to me? It’s so great. I’m so happy I’m here, I love it. <3

Hypothetical AU in which Shi is less gay & they don’t hate each other. (im rating all these ships as top, I have no shame.)

Who is the most affectionate?



I imagine probably Kyer. Shi is kinda awkward and shy and not very good at expressing her feelings, but she does care about him, and she has all these little subtle ways of showing it, like purposely sitting next to him on the couch to read or making breakfast or letting him steal all the blankets. And she really doesn’t mind all the affection Kyer gives her. She actually appreciates it a lot. She just gets very quiet and sometimes blushes a bit.

Big spoon/Little spoon?

I feel like Shi wouldn’t like being spooning, because it makes her feel kind of trapped either way, and that makes her nervous/antsy (she sleeps on the side away from the wall for the same reason). She prefers to lay either with her head on Kyer’s chest (she likes to hear his heartbeat; at least until his arm falls asleep) or face-to-face with maybe one arm over his side (or holding hands), or curled up against his back with her arms tucked into her chest. Kyer would probably love to spoon, but he gets that it makes her uncomfortable and he’s willing to sacrifice that. Shi also probably knows that he wants to, and keeps trying to work herself up to being ok with it. (After a while she gets comfortable enough to lay facing the outside edge of the bed with Kyer’s back to the wall, and one hand just resting on her side or her hip; that way she still feels like she could bolt if she needs to.)

Most common argument?

I imagine they argue a fair amount about pretty trivial stuff….. Except there’s always something underlying it. Like they might be arguing about Kyer not taking his turn to do the dishes, when actually they’re arguing about how he’s been so busy lately and Shi feels lonely, and how Kyer can’t keep her company all the time, he needs time to do other things not involving her. They also argue long and bitterly over whether the dress is white and gold or blue and black. (Shi thinks it’s white and gold. Kyer can’t really see it, but he’s heard the dress is officially blue and black. Shi rejects reality. Kyer thinks that’s dumb. He still can’t even see the dress and he knows she’s wrong.) (Alt. version where they have their powers- Kyer finally grudgingly uses ‘seeing in the dark’ to look at it, and has to admit that it kind of maybe does look white and gold. a little. but it’s still not.)

Favorite non-sexual activity?

Shi likes to go out for hikes when she can, and she’ll go scout out easy, level trails for him that don’t have a lot of rocks or dips in the path. (I’m imaging that Kyer is only 99% blind here, and he’s got glasses that let him see shapes well enough to get around. But he probably doesn’t like wearing them.) Aaand she takes him there and they have nice (kind of leisurely) walks through the woods, and every now and then Shi will describe something she sees for him or pick something up (acorns, pretty leaves, smooth stones,) and put them in his hands. They both really like doing this, but Shi still isn’t quite sure how to react to his blindness, or how tactful she should or shouldn’t be, and Kyer has to tell her pretty frankly that he just enjoys having some time spent out in nature with her, so don’t worry about it. (Alternately; sometimes they go out to a local park on days when it’s not too busy, and Kyer runs from one end of the field to the other while Shi watches. And then eventually joins him, and they just run back and forth across the field until they’re winded and laughing and Kyer keeps tripping because he’s having more fun listening to Shi laugh and isn’t paying as much attention to where his feet are going.)

Who is most likely to carry the other?

I think they probably don’t carry each other a lot… Shi feels weird and kind of embarrassed about carrying Kyer around, and she kind of shrieks a bit and clings whenever Kyer picks her up (even though she knows he’s not gonna drop her… at least not on purpose….. probably….) so it’s not something they do regularly. Kyer does carry her to bed though, occasionally, or picks her up when he’s feeling especially mischievous and kind of twirls around with her until she’s stuck between laughing and yelping in horror.

Nicknames?

Kyer probably calls her ‘Shi’, which most people do, or ‘Storm’. Shi will call him ‘Ky’ or ‘Smoke’ in return. Somehow I can see them using their ‘alias’ names with each other a lot? Like, even though they know each others names, they somehow still feel more natural using these nicknames. They don’t use pet names, so that’s kind of their version of terms of endearment. (Actually that’s a lie. Kyer likes to call her ‘sweetheart’ or ‘dear’ or ‘love’, but Shi always looks so flustered when he uses them that he saves them for gently teasing her.)

Who worries the most?

Probably Shi. She’s always worrying about how she’s handling things or if she’s being a good romantic partner or if Kyer still likes her. She thinks she’s subtle about keeping it to herself, but she’s really not, and Kyer always seems to end up ‘reading her mind’ and reassuring her that really, he does like her just the way she is, she’s fine.

Who tops?

Shi ‘tops’ from the bottom. She has trouble giving in and letting Kyer take the lead, but they’re working on that. She gets more relaxed with him over time and it gets easier to let herself not worry about being in control all the time. And Kyer is very sweet when he ‘tops’.

Who initiates kisses?

Kyer!! He surprises Shi with kisses while they’re doing laundry or just around the house, and he usually misses slightly and Shi blushes at first but then she kisses him back properly. After a while, she starts initiating them too, but she’s a lot more hesitant and less frequent about it, which Kyer thinks is actually a little cute, because he can always feel her eyes on him when she wants to kiss him, but sometimes she can’t work the nerve up to do it and he has to go over and kiss her instead.

Who wakes up first?

I want to say Kyer again? Shi is a bit of a fitful sleeper, and she usually wakes up a couple times in the night and lays for a while before falling back asleep. Kyer usually sleeps through it, but when it does wake him up, he falls back asleep much quicker than she does. So she has a little trouble getting up in the morning. Kyer brings her coffee in bed if he has time, and that usually wakes her up enough to get dressed and help Kyer make breakfast. (She knows he knows his way around the kitchen well enough to cook, and he can see well enough with his glasses, but she still gets a lite nervous for his wellbeing regarding knives and fire. Also she likes to feel helpful.)

Who says I love you first?

Kyer. Shi is much too mortified by her own feelings to say anything about it. They’ve kinda got a thing going on before either of them confess, or so I imagine, but they kinda know its mutual (correction; Kyer kinda knows) so it takes a while for the actual feelings to get brought out in the open.

1. Frustration over dislike/ dislike stemming from frustration because she feels she can’t elucidate properly to him and even if she could, he’d probably never listen + no record of any positive interaction, ever > hates that he gets into her head and makes her question herself.

2. Fear > fear of his apparent heartlessness, fear from having him lash out at her (triggering some really horrible PTSD of being hit when she was a kit), fear of the spiraling self-deprecation effect he has on her.

3. Seriously disturbed by his manner the last time they met, mildly worried, but mostly freaked out and disturbed. Desire to stay as far away from him as possible.
