*sigh* Marvel...
So apparently Kyle's last name is "Roy". (Scroll to the bottom.)
Seriously, Marvel? Is this going to be a thing with Kyle's background? Because you're now two for two for remembering to give him a name only in the small print of a handbook instead of in books where he actually appears.
Dammit, I'm going to have to go mess with my tags again...
One more note on Alpha Flight #1...
Seriously, spoilers under the cut...
You haven't seen me threatening to cut people in ways that would make grizzled trauma surgeons urp over Kyle's apparent death toward the end of the book because it's been out there for a while that Department H is going to be using Kyle as one of the hostages against Alpha Flight. So while I'm not keen on his getting injured, I haven't gone right to the rageohol stash.
Considering the history of disposable minority characters in comics, I personally think a selective spoilers like that are a good idea. A creative team is not owed trust, no matter how well they may have handled minority characters in the past, and considering Van Lente's involvement (and severe lack of Getting It) with the Spider-Rape BS and Northstar's treatment during Herc's outing, there would be little reason to automatically assume that this wouldn't be a fridging. But the spoiler being out there ahead of time is a quiet note that this (probably) isn't a repeat of the same crap we've seen dozens of times before, so I'm willing to see how this plays out.
Rats...
Third rule of fandom: Reader theories rarely survive first contact with the creative team.
Fred Van Lente seems to have nixed the Kyle/Stevie Hunter connection (or at least the two of them sharing a last name; I really should have worded that inquiry better and possibly with fewer threats of incoming hugs), but I still like it and I'm keeping it in my personal fanon until/if the real deal comes to light.
ETA: Well, that didn't take long...
