1 Week of Kylo Ren | Day 1 | Favorite Scene
For me, the first scene in which we see Kylo in The Last Jedi is my favorite, and what I believe to be one of the most critical to the character.
The reveal when he takes his helmet off in Snoke’s throne room is stunning on so many different levels. Snoke’s words have once again belittled and embarrassed him, and when the mask comes off, our eye is immediately drawn to not only to his face wound, but the wounded and defeated look in his eyes. (Ok, ok and HOLY FUCK Adam Driver is utter and complete perfection. There, we got that out of the way, so let’s move on...)
“A Child in a Mask”
When Snoke continues to taunt Kylo, we see something we haven’t seen before — a sudden spark of angry, physical defiance from Kylo, which Snoke, of course, immediately thwarts.
This is an incredibly pivotal point in Kylo’s story. I honestly believe that Kylo is ALREADY planning Snoke’s demise at this point. The rage he shows in the lift isn’t just one of the Kylo Ren temper tantrums we saw in The Force Awakens. This rage is focused, and it is focused on Snoke.
What we are witnessing in this scene is incredibly important to Kylo’s future as well as to Reylo because THIS scene shows us the reimmergence of Ben Solo, and places him on the path for his ultimate redemption. (Both of these reveals are also reiterated in the battle scene that follows this one, when he shows mercy, compassion and love for Leia.)
I fell in love it seems, for what was real is not. -Michael Faudet.
