What is The Foxhole Court? I've seen a lot about it and it seems interesting. Would you recommend it?
okay wow i turned my laptop on just for this bc i am about to write a massive essay you didn’t ask for lmao
The Foxhole Court are my favourite books ever that i will recommend until i die, and this is like a huge thing for me. i am the person that if you ask me for my favourite movie or tv show or band etc i’ll be like idk i like a lot of things i can’t pick but i found TFC in mid july and it was changed my life (and my blog whoops)
the first book can be found for free (!!!!!) on amazon smashwords ibooks (i use the uk links but it’s free in all countries) and the other two books are only 99p each - srsly buy them they are soooooo goooooood
so okay the first book sets the scene with this fictional sport (exy) and introduces you to all the main characters and you get into it. then books 2 and 3 come around and OH BOY i got so attached to all these characters man they are my children i could write you an entire essay about each one and why i love them
it’s just?? so real????? like i’ve never before found books that i’ve connected with so well. yeah people complain that the scenarios they get into are unrealistic and they are, but if you just accept it - bc hey, you’re reading FICTION - then you enjoy the ride so much and the most real part are the characters. they all have their perks and flaws. there are parts when you love them and parts when you want to smash their heads against a wall. by the end of the series, they feel like your friends and you love and hate them as such
like these books are dark my guy i will not hide that from you (if you want then here is a great trigger warning list that isn’t too spoilery composed by the brilliant @cabeswaterlovesthem) but honestly these books grab you and dont let go. you’ll catch yourself wondering whether characters are doing okay, then remember that wait they aren’t real. i read the first book in one sitting, the second one in two, then as soon as i finished the second one i read the third until it was 7am i had had no sleep and my battery was dead, and then continued the third book after my phone had recharged.
i don’t know how to describe what they are about without going into spoilers lmao when i read the description of the first book i was like ‘ehhh a sports book not for me’ but then i saw loads of stuff on tumblr and decided to give it a try and i’m so glad i did bc i cannot stress enough how these books changed my life
yes they are set around a sport, but the sport is more the basis for bringing the characters together. bc that’s what these books are: a story about the characters. i know that sounds weird but you’ll get what i mean if you read them like yeah the plot is happening but it is all based around the characters and what impact it has upon them and their lives are what shape everything. the best i can come to describing it is those games where you have the amazing, breathtakingly awesome scenery but the tale of the game and the relationships between the characters are what really catch your eye
another thing that i cannot praise enough is the fandom. it’s pretty small bc these books are self published (!!!!!!! nora deserves all the praise and recognition in the world i just cannot okay) but every member of this fandom is so sweet and welcoming. what we lack in varied fanfic we make up for in love <3
i have gone very much off topic in this answer and there are still so many things that i want to say but yeah i’ve gone on long enough
TL;DR The Foxhole Court is the best series i have ever read in my life and you should 1000000000000% give it a go
