Real Life Sets In...
I've definitely been having trouble finding the motivation to do anything as of late. It's been so incredibly nice to not HAVE to constantly be working on or at something for the first time in over 4.5 years. But it's been a bit of a problem because there have been things I've needed to do. Fortunately today was "GET YOUR BUTT IN GEAR DAY!
I first woke up to multiple text messages from a friend to tell me that she is being interviewed about an issue that we feel very strongly about by a local (but still pretty big) news station regarding mental health. The want to take pictures/videos of he doing random things, talking with her parents, and going on a walk with a friend. Hence the phone call. She knows I'm in the area and asked if I would want to be the token friend. Of course I said YES! I'm so incredibly proud of her not only for standing up and discussing this issue, but also for taking a GIANT LEAP out of her comfort zone to do this interview! I hope I can help her by being a calming presence and also just have some fun!
Not only that, but today I got a message from the teacher I did my student teaching with to ask if I would write her a letter of recommendation for the department head of the science department job that has just opened in the department I was able to be a part of this past semester. Of course I said yes! This amazing woman has been such a role model for me ever since I had the wonderful opportunity to work with her this past August, and I have no doubt that she would make an amazing department head. Plus the due date of the letter is actually her birthday as well, so this will make sure I get a bday present out in time in the mail!
So finally, for the first time in what seems weeks, I'm doing laundry, have some motivation to continue working on unpacking, and have some goals with strict timelines that I need/want to achieve. My mom is definitely right, if I have no structure I struggle. I need those constant motivators and deadlines to keep me going.
Hopefully next week too I'll have more answers about my hip pain since I'm going to a specialist. Then I have to start preparing to "live in the city" for 10 days while I dog sit/condo sit for my aunt and uncle in Chicago!!! Super excited because their place overlooks Maggie Daley Park (Millennium park).
End Rant.
