Hey! I've been lurking in lolita for a decade and have only dipped in once or twice, but I'm trying to put together my first real full coord. I'm starting with a dress I've been looking at for years, bodyline's L087 in red. I love the construction, and red has always been my favorite, despite how hard i knew it would be to coord. I'm planning a more "simple" classic-leaning look w/ sheer socks and some red open toed lolita shoes, but i'm not sure what else to do with it! Advice is appreciated.

Since it’s such a simple dress there are a lot of things you can do with it. You could choose a second color to coordinate with it that you could use for accessories (maybe black if you want a darker look or ivory if you want a lighter look.) In that case you could just use the colors for accessories that don’t necessarily have any sort of theme such as wristcuffs or gloves, a basic headbow or maybe floral headpiece, and jewelry (you could choose gold and/or cameos to match the one on the dress but I’ve heard a lot of people say they thought the cameo on the dress looked cheap so they removed it and went with something else for their jewelry.) If you wanted to you could also choose a theme to build a coord around since the dress itself doesn’t have one. Using different pieces of your coord such as your bag, jewelry, and other accessories you can easily bring in a theme of your choosing. For example, let’s say the red dress reminds you of the Queen of Hearts who has become a pretty popular theme in Lolita. You could choose card suit themed jewelry and maybe add a crown and scepter to get that theme across. Since you said for this coord you want to go with a more simple Classic look you may not want to go with a specific theme, but it’s worth thinking about for future coords.

In our comm I am one of the ~Old Ladies~, the pillars of Classic. It’s not that I dislike Sweet. Even with with the same level of poof, and wearing an OP I’ve already worn before (albeit styled in a more classic way) I feel like I stand and walk differently in Sweet than Classic. What makes it more awkward is that I am generally taller than a lot of people I know.

It’s a matter of confidence, and this is why I usually leave the pastels fluff to the hardcore Sweet ‘no bows no life’ girls in the comm, like Kristina.

But eh. It’s almost December, anyway. Even I have to switch things up once in a while.

Carroll - WIP. A more subtle take on the ‘Alice’ theme. Through the Looking Glass was stalled till August to make way for some cheesy romcoms, much to my joy (not). I was actually a bit let down by Burton’s Alice in some ways- I wish there was a version more true to the original feel of the books.

This still needs socks/shoes and headgear. I’m not sure whether I should wear white boots/sax socks, or white OTKs/blue shoes. Guess it’s down to a coin toss on the day itself.

Hello, ma'am! I would like a little help, if you don't mind. I recently bought Bodyline's L087 OP in black, and I have done thorough research and figured that it should be a bell-shaped. However! For some reason, my bell-shaped petticoat looks really... odd with it? The dress is quite long on me, so it may be that my petti isn't long enough? But I also found that my a-line looked good with it. I'm so sorry, I don't know what to do! Thank you so much. ;u; <3 (I can send a picture if needed!)

In the stock photos it definitely looks more bell-shaped, but photos can be deceiving, especially when they’re Bodyline’s. It may be a case of the petti not being long enough for it because that can definitely make something look bad. Another thing that I’ve noticed is that sometimes if the dress is wrinkled it won’t sit on the petti as it should so see about steaming it or ironing it (on a very low setting, possibly with scrap fabric between the dress and the iron) to get any wrinkles out and see if that helps. If you’re finding that the A-line looks really good though you may be fine with that. Lolita can sometimes take a lot of trial and error and if one thing doesn’t look good you just keep trying until you find what does, even if it doesn’t necessarily make a lot of sense at first.
