do you think I could alter bodylines perlich OP (l328) by removing the back piece with the zipper and replacing it with some shirred fabric? it used to fit me but now it's too thigh in the bust area and I really have strong feelings for this op so I don't really want to give it away. the only thing I'm worried about is that the zipper goes down to the skirt part (which fits me fine) and I don't know what to do with it. any help by you or others who can help is much appreciated <3
I think you could probably do shirring. My way of going about it would be to remove the zipper completely and then detach the skirt portion from the bodice. From there you can add your shirring panel to the bodice and then re-gather the skirt so it will be even all around. Then when you put the two pieces back together you can also stitch up the part of the skirt that once held the zipper. Just be sure not to extend the bodice too much because the bigger you make it the less fabric you’ll have gathered in the skirt which will mean it won’t hold a petti as well. You will also have to find fabric to match the dress that you can use to fill in the blank space of the ruffle at the top.Another option that would be less work would perhaps be to do a triangle-shaped panel of corset lacing with the widest part at the top and the smallest at the waist. You could use the section that is already open from the zipper to your advantage, cover the zipper (or the raw fabric where it was if you choose to remove the zipper) with lace, and insert ribbons behind the lace so nobody will even know there was a zipper there. In the end it would look similar to lacing you sometimes see on the back of wedding dresses but it would end at the waist.
