Ninth Contextual Lecture: Postmodernism.

In todays lecture we learnt about postmodernism as well as modernism in art and architecture. I particularly found the architectural part interesting as we learnt that in the creative industries form/function is important alongside an aesthetic reason for a product’s existence, such is the case for the Park Hill flats in Sheffield. They were initially designed as affordable housing for the working class, which then fell into disrepair, and are now refurbished as trendy, high-rise accommodation. This also shows how the form and function of a product can change as time goes on.

Seventh Contextual Lecture: (All) Ready Made

In today’s lecture I learnt about the legal perspective of pastiche in visual communication and art, and how it is not ‘copying’ or ‘plagiarising’ another artists work if the inspiration is used to explore other types of context and meaning. An example of this is the short film ‘Logorama’ that we watched today. The use of product placement is overwhelmingly obvious, although it is not a breach of the law as it is used artistically to explore new context, which in this case is to parody the amount of advertising that we see today by literally making structures from advertising materials.

Here is another version of this animation, showing a different style of character rather than the lines. I believe the use of collage characters helps this work to feel and look more polished rather than drawn characters because there is more substance and detail to the characters and provides more of an ‘in the flesh’ feel.

Shooting Video For Introduction Sequence.

Me and my group have encountered a problem with the animated sequence used in our introduction, as it is too disorienting for the eye to follow, so for an easier on the eye experience I am shooting a small video made up of stills for the background of our introduction sequence as it provides more of a professional appearance rather than the animated drawings.

Here is an improved version of the previous animation that I submitted on this blog. I believe this could be fit for our final piece of work because it features improved characters which are somewhat animated and there are background characters which provide more of an atmosphere than the previous video.

Here is my animation of the ‘Rat story’ that was based around the story that all women who go to Broad Street are supposedly ‘rats’. I decided to add a sense of humour to this story by using rat-related puns and combining a juxtaposition of the sketched rat woman designs with the video background.

Here is the inspiration behind the animation style that I am going for with this section of my project. I have decided to work this way in order to fit in with the time frame that is left with this project and the style of this work fits in with the naive art, childlike style that I am going for with this project.
