LA BAUTA
(Da un quadro di Uwe Thurnau) Questo costume, costituito da una mantellina nera con cappuccio su cui si portava il tricorno mentre il volto veniva coperto da una caratteristica mascherina bianca o rena, divenne comunissimo nel sec. XVIII, fino a divinire un abito da passeggio in tutti i periodi dell’anno.

(From a painting by Uwe Thurnau) This costume, consisting of a black cape with hood on which the tricorn was worn while the face was covered by a characteristic white or sand mask, became very common in the 18th Century, to the point of defining a walking dress in all periods of the year.
