Absolutely amazing LA Noir that even rivals Michael Mann’s best work. The cinematography by Erik Wilson has a dark transcendental magic to it. Bart Layton’s writing (based on the Don Winslow novel) and direction are tight with sharp focus on these flawed characters. Hemsworth finally proves he’s capable of a performance with some real emotional heft. Berry gives one of her best performances in a long time too. Keoghan is an unsettling kinetic fireball throughout the film, and his presence is amplified by Blanck Mass’s relentlessly propelling score. Instant crime film classic.
