I drove over an hour and a half to see Frankenstein on the big screen and it was absolutely worth it. I’ve read the classic book by Mary Shelley twice, and over the years there has never been a faithful adaptation. Nobody has ever really understood the heart of the story until now, and Guillermo del Toro has taken his dream project and crafted it into his finest achievement.
And while of course I’ll eventually rewatch it on Netflix, it’s a cinematic experience that demands to be seen on the big screen. The sheer beauty of it is stunning to behold, even outdoing Crimson Peak.
Del Toro renders this essential story of humanity with heartbreaking intimacy. The film is frequently emotionally naked and I had to just cry a couple of times, especially from Jacob Elordi’s versatility.
It’s incredibly moving and finally, Frankenstein has been done right.💙
