June 28, 2021 :: For the last leg of our trip we stayed in the quaint little town of Atina. We really liked this place. Early the next morning we set out to explore various villages in the area to get a feel for the region. First stop on our list was a drive up the winding roads of the Abruzzo National Park. On the way we saw sheep and cattle grazing. For lunch we stopped at a town called Opi. The town sits on the peak of a mountain ringed by other, taller mountains. Super cute Medieval village! We loved the abundance of roses drooping over doorways and the lovely views in every direction. Lunch was a lengthy two hour affair that involved three courses and a spectacular view at La Pieja. Opi is classified as one of the "most beautiful villages" of Italy. We agree.
