so glad that instead of actually negotiating, our provost is busy writing indignant letters to the editor of the LA Times chastising the editorial board for expressing support for our strike and explaining that the university’s generous offer is $24k to $30k a year for graduate teaching assistants:

With one exception everywhere I’ve lived regularly experiences weeks of unhealthy-to-hazardous air quality every year due to inversion smog, wildfires, or both and I’m getting real sick of it

LAX is such a hilariously bad airport that like, I almost have a strange affection for it now because actually picking up your bag in a weird liminal basement room with no natural light and then emerging into the bright SoCal sun and immediately having to cross a 4-lane street full of angry drivers while the sound of buses honking and planes landing gives you mild tinnitus is maybe the best possible introduction to The LA Experience I can think of

Let’s absolutely continue hating J*ff B*zos and El*n M*sk but let’s also remember that there’s also lots of G*offrey P*lmers out there too - i.e. non-household names that are just as egregiously greedy, corrupt, awful people who make a fortune on actively making the world a worse place in every way they can

I do genuinely find it charming how most cities are like ‘here’s our haunted Victorian mansion’ or ‘here’s our haunted abandoned mental hospital’ and meanwhile in LA it’s like ‘here’s our haunted merry-go-round, here’s our haunted sign, here’s our haunted boat, here’s our haunted picnic table’
