Last Friday I bought the VR kit for the Nintendo Switch and with all the leftovers I created a samurai helmet to decorate the VR headset! 😝

Nintendo has its own way of teaching how to build a VR blaster.
VR night was super cool! Comparing the two, Mario Odyssey’s VR is neat because they changed the game and added content just to give you something new to do related to VR. But Zelda’s is both larger and less personal, because you can use it for the whole game, but they didn’t really adjust anything for it.
Mario’s was short and fun and has an extra lil coin mission that got me to revisit each level, so it lasted a lil longer. Plus it was just fun playing Odyssey again. I was hoping for Pauline so I loved the ending. It was also fun watching the intro and ending in VR (even if you can’t look around the scene 360.) It’s a fun lil bonus, cool to try out once and probably be done with it. But I love that they keep making Odyssey even more interesting and experimental.
The Zelda VR was great because you could do it the whole game (but might need to take more breaks than usual.) Some text and options are actually pretty hard to read, or don’t seem to show up on the screen - so where Odyssey got extra attention, they didn’t bother adjusting Zelda even when maybe it could have used it (but obviously they don’t want to sink a lot of time into that.) With VR you can look side to side, but up and down only move based on the controller. Though, I got super nauseous from Zelda’s VR (but still loved it.) It’s cooler and more powerful, but you move round more so it’s more dizzying.
So, they both have their positives and negatives - Odyssey’s smaller but got proper attention, Zelda gives you more to do but could have used more care. Both were fun to try though. :3

Odyssey Labo VR **Spoilers**
So, Super Mario Odyssey’s free VR bonus update is a complete joy. The gameplay only lasts about fifteen minutes, but it’s pure fun and leads up to a special interactive VR performance of “Jump Up, Superstar.” The option to watch the opening and closing cinemas on a field-of-vision-filling screen is a kick, too-- Bowser looks super intimidating!
Note that you can experience all the content without the VR goggles, using motion controls in place of head-tracking.
Breath of the Wild
While the Odyssey Labo content is specifically designed--visually and gameplay-wise--as a unique VR experience, the VR feature for Breath of the Wild is the simple-but-huge option to play the entire game in VR.
I have to say, despite the incredibly low resolution of BotW’s VR mode, the 3D effect is quite impressive.
And, unfortunately for me, I was only able to play BotW in VR mode for about a minute before motion sickness kicked in, and I had to quit. Of all the Labo VR experiences, BotW is the only one not specifically designed for VR, and it is the only one that’s given me any kind of motion sickness trouble (aside from a brief moment with the Blaster alien invasion game’s sideways section.)
I absolutely think Labo VR is worth the money (especially the starter kit) for the included Labo games and the VR Garage programming feature. The Odyssey and BotW VR features are nice free bonus modes, but I would not recommend them as the main reason to buy Labo VR. One thing is certain, though; Nintendo has proven they can design amazingly fun VR games. I hope they continue this through any future upgrades to Nintendo Switch as well as future hardware! Sooner or later, VR is going to make a huge impact on the entertainment industry. In the name of great, intelligent, imaginative family entertainment, Nintendo needs to be a part of it all.
