Mother just did the funniest thing. My sister bought a Labubu doll, but was really unhappy she got one with grey fur. So she asked Mother to sew an outfit which would hide as much of the fur as possible, sending an example image of a Labubu in a bee onesie with a hood. But instead Mother just straight up crocheted a chador for the Labubu???
Look at her. Alhamdulillah Labubu has embraced the light of Islam 😭
[ID: A grey Labubu doll completely covered head to toe in a crocheted yellow garment, only her face is visible and the tips of her bunny ears. ID 2. The garment is shown open. It still covers her head, but is open in the front like a coat. Her little arms are spread, making it look like the chador fell open because she stopped holding it closed. /end ID]
Ok one last post before I resume my hiatus probably. I finished my diy Labubu doll (her name is Ikea)
Plus some progress pics from making her
So yeah I did cut up and modify a stuffed bear to make her… what’s it to you?
(I know I mainly post digital art/drawings and while that is the vast majority of my creative works I do have a lot of other art passions. Would you guys like to see more of my physical/traditional/irl art? Curious to see if people would be interested at all in that)
For any craft/art nerds, or alternatively for will McDaniel fans, here is the materials list:
- 2 doll eyes I bought from a small store filled with Victorian + Edwardian era antiquity (you can also buy them on Amazon but I took the scenic route)
- A plush teddy bear from the dollar store (you could use really any generic shaped stuffed animal though, I’d recommend the thrift store or dollar store because. Well they’re just the cheapest.)
- White crayola model magic air dry clay (I like the more lightweight less breakable clay personally, you could use whatever this is just my sculpting medium of choice.)
- A bunch of 50 cent paint I bought from somewhere (I do not remember) (colors used were red, white, brown, yellow of multiple kinds, and blue)
- Use your manicure set as sculpting tools bc you misplaced your actual sculpting tools only to find them the next day. Or just use sculpting tools like a regular person.
- Mod podge, just to seal in the paintjob so it wouldn’t get chipped or otherwise damaged
- Gorilla glue, usually I use hot glue for crafts but I’ve found it just doesn’t stick to this type of clay nor does it stick well to mod podge. Gorilla glue works great though! I’m sure super glue would too.
- A piece of cardboard and a pill bottle cap to make the base for the head shape. You could also use aluminum foil I just didn’t feel like going upstairs to find it. So I did this. Look just use foil ok?
As for what inspired me, first thing is I don’t have the extra money to buy an actual labubu and while I fully could have just made myself something that looks like a regular labubu I decided this was a better use of my time.
As for artistically? Will McDaniel and Jack Stauber are easily my biggest artistic inspirations. Lots of inspiration too from the artist Sonsational Creations, mainly because she was actually my mentor for doll making many years ago (back in like, 2016-2019 I’d guess). Gakman Creatures also was a big inspiration since when I was younger I was just in love with their art. Jim Henson too ofc, I’ve gotten to see his most famous puppets in real life up close at conventions and that’s definitely inspired me to start creating again. Primarily though again it’s McDaniel and Stauber
I couldnt care less about their trendy ness. I like them because of the sheer gremlin aura they emanate.
They remind me alot of the lucky troll. A toy i had as a kid with a similar gremlin aura. In fact there where alot of gremlin aura stuff when i was little(toys plushies movies). Which is why labubus are somewhat nostalgic to me despite never seeing them before
I love labubus/lafufus. They were never just a trend to me and I will buy every labubu/lafufu I see in thrift stores because I still love those little bastards. They deserved better than just becoming the face of consumerism
I caved into labubus (think of them as you wish...) but I could not make up some cosmologically horrible shit about them. In my lore they're all humans punished for their bad behavior stuck into plushies for X amount of time. Here's the squad.
